Progesterone levels low

Hello,
iv been frantically googling and searching mumsnet for the last 24 hours looking for any advice or similar experiences. Me and partner are trying for baby no1 first month of trying was December and we were ecstatic when I didnt get a period in Jan... only to start bleeding around a week later and confirmed complete misscarriage at early pregnancy unit. I frantically started to scrutinize my cycles and realised leutal phase of around 9/10 days found lots of positive threads on here suggesting b6 so tried that and increased to 11 days in Feb cycle. I done alot of reading on short leutal phases and seen theres a chance of low progesterone, spoke to Gp who dismissed it said we concieved and to try again basically. So I paid for a private day 21 test which came back as 12.5- the report stated normal but unlikely to have ovualted which totally shocked me as I knew my body and symptoms of ovulating/bbt etc. stated should be at 30 to confirm ovulation....low and behold period has not arrived and got a very clear bfp at 12dpo. Only Im terrified to be excited as terrified it isnt viable and just waiting for the same thing to happen. Im scared there is an issue with me/my body and Gp wont help. When I got the bfp called straight away thinking they would prescribe something to help but told me they wouldnt look to prescribe anything at this point but if it happened againa would refer me which didnt help at all. Has anyone ever experienced low levels but went on to have successful pregnancy without any assistance? Thank you in advance and apologies for the long message.

Could you get a private prescription? My GP said she can't prescribe progesterone but suggested that I could ask a private fertility clinic to prescribe. I'm already with one although not pursuing fertility treatment currently and they said that they could prescribe it for me.

I got my day 21 result back today and it's 11.8 which I'm obviously gutted about.

I got progesterone through a private clinic. My GP has since agreed to prescribe it (on obstetrician advice) after 3 losses. It took weeks for that to happen though so I'm glad I went private so I didn't have to wait in the early days. Hope all goes well

Well take my results as a bit blurry... from what Iv read they can definitely fluctuate and to be most accurate its best to test over different days to try catch the peak.

I might do that actually, even just for information if they took my bloods now and said theyr up/down and what it means but gp not interested. Think I will try again with diff doctor and hope it isnt too late or anything. the only reason I tested was because my temp shot up after steady decline for 4 days which would indicate rise in progesterone. But not sure if that just means it is poor quality from ovulation or something. So many questions hopefully someone will answer me even if it means I have to pay to get it. Thank you for replying x

The private doctor I spoke to this week said that progesterone supplements can't do any harm and might help so they would definitely prescribe. In my googling this afternoon I found a study where they supplemented to a level of 25 in the first trimester and it reduced the miscarriage rate.

Oh really? I will get onto finding some private clinics near me. Have you had bfp too? Even just a conversation with someone who understands the specifics. gps are wonderful but even the early pregnancy unit said they (Gp's) probably wouldnt prescribe because they dont specialise in it so they would only refer me.

I’ve had full cycle progesterone monitoring and never get a raised level at all. I wasn’t ovulating and started on Clomid - once I was pregnant there was sufficient in my system to maintain the pregnancy.
Even though they knew I didn’t have any and didn’t produce it, they still didn’t prescribe any.

Have an 18 month old and 30 weeks with the second.

Good luck OP.

Daffodil21 · 12/03/2021 20:38

@Sbbb5 not sure if that question was for me or not, but yes, I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant. Not sure if it was the progesterone or the other meds I was taking, or neither of those things but hoping it continues to be ok.

I got an online appointment via a video. Let me know if you want the details. It took a week or so to get an appointment so not sure if you'll be able to get one sooner elsewhere. Good luck!

@Sbbb5 it was a company called nova fertility. They're based in Manchester but they do video appointments (£150). I spoke to one of the drs of the drs who specialises in recurrent mc and she was really good

Sbbb5 · 12/03/2021 20:50

Thanks very much! X

I imagine they'll prescribe it to you based on your results. Hope all goes well for you x
