Because of certain medical issues I have I've been offered an induction at 39 weeks.

I was just looking for induction experiences to get an idea what it's like , thanks .

Hey OP, I was induced at 41 weeks due to high blood pressure. I was already 3cm dilated when induction started so straight to breaking the waters and syntocinin drip. DD was my first so hard to compare but the pain was definitely much more intense than I'd prepared for! In hindsight I wish I'd opted for pain relief sooner - I wanted to see if I could hold out for a bit and by the time it was really unmanageable it was too late! In the end things moved really quickly - waters broke at 6.30pm and DD born just before midnight. I ended up with a 2nd degree tear and a fair bit of blood loss but DD was perfectly healthy and blood pressure came down fast after the birth!

I'd personally have preferred to avoid induction if I could but it was the right thing to keep both of us safe on the day.

Happy to answer any questions if it helps, hope all goes smoothly for you!

@eleanorsos I've heard awful things about induction but I have an issue with my platelets and I've been told if I want platelets matched to me they need to be ordered in for a certain date , the reason for them inducing so it can be controlled a bit more.

If not, I would get generic platelets that the doctors said could cause issues with antibodies further down the line if I needed them again.

I've got a potential for bad blood loss as I also have issues with my clotting factors in addition to my platelets not functioning properly, so I think maybe the induction is the better thing than spontaneous labour .

Thanks for your reply.

I was put on the drip, forgot the name, as labour did not progress enough. It definitely made contractions more painful so I requested an epidural as soon as I could get one. 4cm for me. Good luck!

I had an induction at 38 weeks 4 days because of concerns over the baby. I had the pessary to start but nothing happened so the next day had the drip. I knew things were going to get intense so I requested an epidural fairly early on and it was great. Started the drip around 11am and was fully dilated by around 7pm. Pushed for 20 minutes and my baby arrived safe and sound. For me it was a great birth!
