Smells and Sights Causing Nausea At 9 Weeks?

I’m 9 weeks pregnant today and have been experiencing nausea for the last 4-5 weeks but more recently, this has just been triggered by certain sights and smells (EG: The fridge, my OHs coffee, bits of food in the sink, fish, strong cheese, bread etc) rather than being present all of the time. I still have to eat something quickly when I wake up or else the nausea lingers on first thing. I’ve not actually vomited yet. I’m a bit concerned that this isn’t normal? I’ve still not heard from a midwife regarding my booking in appointment, despite submitting my forms 3 weeks ago. Will give it til 10 weeks and then chase again but just wondered if anyone else had experienced nausea with this kind of pattern? Have seen baby with a good heartbeat on an ultrasound. Thanks in advance Smile

That’s what it’s like for some lucky people. I really wouldn’t worry about it!

This brings bad memories, both healthy babies though. Never again.

It’s completely normal. I couldn’t do cat food, bins or the fridge smells and I was only sick brushing my teeth. The toothbrushing problem was almost the entire pregnancy.

Megan2018 · 09/03/2021 20:27

Oh and the clean dishwasher, the smell of that made me gag too.

PippityChippity · 09/03/2021 20:38

Ahh thanks all! That’s reassuring! I guess I was just a bit worried as I’ve gone from feeling nausea for a lot of the day to just very intensely when something triggers it. I’ve developed some quite significant food aversions too and can’t manage a lot of foods that I would normally enjoy as the smell or thought of them makes me feel so sick. About the only thing I want to eat at the moment is curry believe it or not...I just wondered if the shift in how nausea presents itself is normal. What I don’t have on nausea, I’ve made up for in total exhaustion. Getting out of bed in the mornings and making it through the working day without a nap is a huge effort.

@Megan2018 The bins are another thing I forgot from the list of things which repulse me - The food bin is the WORST thing at the moment. OH has to change it everyday or I’m gagging manically in the kitchen if I smell it.

I couldn't even go past Tesco meat aisle at one point , open the cupboard in the kitchen as the mdf made me hurl, eat garlic, onions!

I couldn't even watch my favourite cookery programmes.

I burst into tears when I discovered beetroot salad as it tasted so good 😂

@PippityChippity, this is exactly the experience I had. I was nauseaous all day from about 5-7 weeks and then it tailed off but would have very severe sudden reactions to food in the sink or a dirty tea towel for example! I'd go from feeling okay to heaving and vomiting immediately. I'm 14+3 now and it's a bit better!

SunnySideUp2020 · 10/03/2021 07:26

I had this wonderful experience.
It was so bad i went to the doctor and said if i knew how it was gonna be i wouldn't have become pregnant 😅
But it eased at around 10/11 weeks

Cafeaulait27 · 10/03/2021 09:42

I’m 9 weeks tomorrow and have had mild nausea at times, I’ve found I’m starting to go off some foods now - mostly meat and rich things. I just don’t fancy anything at the moment so choosing what to cook in the evening is a struggle as I usually love food and cooking!

Seems to be totally normal xx

Helenknowsbest · 10/03/2021 10:22

Oh yes perfectly normal. My husband used to walk in a room and it would make me nauseous 😆😆

Welshmumma92 · 11/03/2021 08:40

I couldn't go anywhere near my kitchen for a good few weeks. The sight of the toaster and cooker really set the nausea off. Isn't it strange what your body does. 😂
