Hi all
This is my second pregnancy and wow its hit hard!! My sons pregnancy was truly a breeze compared to this and I haven't even hit 8 weeks yet!!
I constantly feel sick day and night, I wake up during the night feeling very sick and dry heaving. I can't enjoy any food and I have terrible food adversions I can't stand a lot of smells right now, mainly the smell of the air fryer, which even the thought of including this one has made me almost puke.
I always feel nauseous, and I just dont know what to do! I'm constantly wrenching
Its affecting my life so much, I'm struggling to do anything, even walking the dog has me dry wrenching the whole entire time, I look crazy and I feel dreadful, I don't know what to do!!
I feel terribly sick but most of the time i wont puke, just Heave and wrench unbearably!
The only time I will actually be sick is if I take my folic acid, It makes me either puke up or heave for hours after.

Any recommendations, remedies, advice, tips too help me get through this?

Will it probably end after 12 weeks?

Thanks all

Go to the GP - there are medications that can help.

Koolandorthegang · 09/03/2021 18:39

I had this with my DD and it eventually went but only after 18 weeks. The GP offered me anti nausea medication but I had two MCs before so I was too afraid to take anything.

If I’m lucky to get pregnant again I will definitely be getting something if the sickness is as bad as last time.

I’d recommend to you to get the medication if it’s having a really bad impact on your life, it’s really horrible you poor thing Flowers

Definitely go to the docs, doesn't sound like ginger and lemonade will help here.

anniebu · 09/03/2021 19:20

Besides anti-nausea prescription medicine, classic cola was the only thing that helped me. I would sip a little, and if I could have half a glass, the nausea was reduced for the next couple hours, enough to eat something. Try it an hour before mealtime.

Medication, tonic water for me

positivebex · 09/03/2021 19:35

I’ve tried everything, sickness and nausea was bad in my 1st pregnancy also and seems to be even worse this time. After being reluctant midwife advised me to ask Dr for anti sickness medication, only started them today so I’m going to see how these go.

Call the dr and get some medication. They had a video call with me and I was prescribed cyclizine.

Food wise, to be honest whatever you can stomach. I had salt and vinegar crisps and noodles during the day. Things like chicken dippers, potato waffles. Just really plain food. Get some sugars with a some full fat coke as well.

Even if it doesn't sit for ages, you are getting something inside of you and even if the worst of foods the baby manages to get some nutrients.

I was pregnant with my son in 2018 no sickness at all , I’m pregnant now and the first 18 weeks was hell on earth I have never been so ill in my whole life had to carry a sick bucket round from room to room because it was just happen !, the only thing that even eased it was stem ginger in hot water and drink it , just peel the skin off cut a few slices let it sit in the water stir it every so often while drinking

Mamabearwhere · 09/03/2021 19:52

I could have written (I may have even posted) this myself about 7 weeks ago. I also got it really bad and felt horrendous 24/7. It was relentless. I’m now 12 weeks and getting better but I do remember thinking at 7 weeks “omg how can I do this for another 5/6 weeks”.

Somethings they helped slightly for me

  • see your GP there are meds safe to take. They didn’t work for me though
  • sickness wristbands. You can get them off Amazon.
-keeping my stomach full and avoiding getting too hungry. I know it’s really hard when you feel so sick and not wanting to eat but I was snacking on biscuits and pretzels all day long and even in middle of night if I woke up feeling sick. Crackers or popcorn. Ice lollies were really soothing. Cold oranges. Cold grapes. I mean out of the fridge rather than room temp. Flat coke and flat sprite really helped.
  • i found my pregnacare vitamins were making me even more awful so I stopped taking them and just took folic acid but made sure to take it with full stomach otherwise like you said it would make me feel sick for hours.
  • sucking on mentos helped.
  • weetabix and banana
  • i found when a friend or family member dropped some food over I was able to eat it better than if it was cooked at home where I could smell the cooking process. Do you have some support members who could make you some small meals?

There’s a hyperemesis support thread in here if you can find it, some really useful advice on there.

Otherwise just rest and hang in there, it does get better towards 12/13 weeks when your placenta takes over the job. I didn’t move from my sofa and bed for weeks and weeks and haven’t cooked in weeks as the smell makes me feel so bad.

This is my third baby and I wasn’t anywhere near this bad the first two times. Good luck.

This is me! I've started cyclizine and have been on it a week. The improvement happened within a day, I can now function and go to work. Nausea and sickness is still there but dramatically reduced.

Roselilly36 · 09/03/2021 20:09

Nausea is the worse feeling, my medication can make me feel nauseous, I cope by drinking peppermint tea and nibbling ginger or rich tea biscuits when I can. Also honeydew melon from the fridge is refreshing and hydrating. I hope it passes soon for you OP. Good luck.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 09/03/2021 20:20

I used to suck small ice cubes. Not sure why but it helped.

Trustynickname · 13/03/2021 09:44

Thanks for all of the advice! I've decided to see how I go untill monday, if none of the things above work I'm going to call the gp and see if I am able to get some medication as it is very tough. X

Also, asgross as this sounds, I ate food based on how bad it would be to vomit. Fish, anything spicy, acidic or too citrusy went out the window (except lemon slices which I craved).

Peony2021 · 13/03/2021 18:24

Hey great advice from PPs. I'm similar to you I haven't yet called my GP because I just worry they will say well you aren't throwing up so just get on with it. But I did take increase my B6 vitamins from the prenatal vitamin standard to x2 25mg per day and it has made a difference for me... only thing so far I have to say. Still get some waves of nausea but for the first time in weeks I got dressed, did the washing and put on a face mask! Hope you get the help you need, it's so tough xx

SkittlesRainbow · 13/03/2021 22:06

Keep an eye on your weight as well. I had hyperemesis with my first two pregnancies, where I couldn't stop vomiting. This is my third pregnancy and although the vomiting is not every day, the all day nausea and all that you describe in your original post is exactly my experiencee. I weighed myself and I had lost a stone in three weeks. The weight loss can determine whether it is hyperemesis or not. You don't have to vomit. I have been given several medications such as cyclezine and metaclopromide.

I am 14 weeks now and I won't lie its not got better get. I really hope it isn't the case for you as it's not like this for everyone. But definitely get help Monday. And if the doctors aren't sympathetic talk to a midwife, even if it's early and you haven't got one yet. My doctors were awful and didn't take it seriously but the midwife had me sent into hospital, thoroughly checked, medication prescribed, and signed off work. I was also referred to the perinatal mental health services as I have developed depression and anxiety through it all.

It has been a difficult experience. But do whatever you need to get through and take all the advice given is my advice. I really hope you're okay soon.

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 13/03/2021 22:09

Green apples, sour candies, salty crackers, and lemon water got me through pregnancies #1 and #3, but with #2 I had to go the medication route. There’s just no explaining it sometimes!

A good night’s sleep was also a must, even with the medication. 8-9 hours I’d be fine. Under 6 I’d be throwing up all day no matter what I tried.

Hang in there!
