Hi everyone. I am 6 weeks pregnant and am looking for a good hospital before I book my first scan. I have been offered the following:

  1. King's College Hospital
  2. Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
  3. St George's Hospital
  4. Guy's Hospital

I'd appreciate it if anyone who has experience in these hospitals share their experience.

Thanks

All of these hospitals have a good reputation, it depends what is most important to you? If you want a homebirth for example you should book at your local unit as 'out of area' hospitals won't attend your address. Do you want a midwife led unit? obstetric led?
you can use a couple of tools to help:
www.cqc.org.uk/help-advice/help-choosing-care-services/choosing-maternity-care
or use the which? website.

All these hospitals are similar, large teaching hospitals, all have a birth center and pools, all offer midwife and obstetric led care. I would choose the closest one- it is horrible travelling to the hospital when you are in labour. Also, appointments will probably start being face to face again, so you don't want to travel far for them? good luck!

C&W has the best reputation and most people I know opt to go there. Register with them ASAP though as some hospitals have a maximum number of new patients/expectant mummies that they can take on.

Thank you @Kipkay35 and @Bella6686
I am probably going to have elective C-Section and want to make sure I make the right choice. I've heard very good things about St Thomas and C&W but King's is the closest of them all to me.

I was at king's for my antenatal care before we moved out of the area. Their scan facility (harris birthright centre)is incredible. It's lead by Dr Nicolaides who is the head of fetal medicine research and also runs a clinic on Harley Street. The scans I had there were so detailed and in depth. I was also offered the harmony test free of charge when my combined screening came back as 1:484 (still considered low risk but they were doing it as part of a research project). You get your combined screening results on the same day as your scan as they run the labs on site whilst you have your scan. They also offer a 36 week scan as standard care.

I can't comment on what it's like to deliver there as like I said, I moved away. I did have an elective c-section though which was a good experience. Kings has a private wing, which you might be able to pay for a private room post op. I had to stay on a ward after mine and would have paid for this option if I could.

I would say they are probably all good and to go to the one closest to you. I had a csection and the journey home was quite overwhelming and I was so glad I didn't have far to travel.
