Best maternity/nursing bras for small breasts

Hi all,
I'm growing out of my 32B regular bras (20 weeks pregnant) but most articles online don't differentiate between larger and smaller endowed women, despite having very different needs from bras. For those of you who are an A or B cup pre-pregnancy, what bras did you find the best for maternity and nursing? To be honest, they're so swollen and pert right now I don't really need the support but don't want them going saggy later either....

Firstly are you using the 'boob or bust' method to ensure you are wearing the correct size?

ZooKeeper19 · 09/03/2021 11:43

I used my normal ones, or none at home. As easy as possible.

idontlikealdi · 09/03/2021 11:45

I just wore my normal bras

I bought wire free regular bras, found them much better than maternity bras for me as a 34 b.
The best ones I found were aimed at young tweens. From next in a 2 pack. Soft , wire free and comfortable, still wearing them now and my DS is 4mnths.

I can't wear my normal bras - I'm growing out of them, plus they're all underwired and it's digging in, and I'd like to be able to nurse in them after so need the nursing clips. I hear good things about the supermarket own brand bras...

I'll try the boob or bust measurement, thanks! I suspect I may be nearer a 32A when I'm not pregnant, to be honest...

Don't assume you'll stay the same size! I went from an A pre-pregnancy to a DD right when my milk came in, and have swapped between D C B depending on how much baby was feeding. For pregnancy I'd go for some nice "comfort bras" with no wire, I like the Asda ones that just come in small, medium etc cheap and super comfy. Then I'd worry about getting nursing bras when baby is here and milk supply is settled

I'm 36 weeks with my 3rd and have been either pregnant or breastfeeding for the past 6 years!

My boobs grew significantly when I was pregnant & they were already reasonably big beforehand. The only thing I found comfortable were the crop top style bras, I bought some from Primark for later on in pregnancy but I’m now breastfeeding and have bought 4x Lindex nursing bras which are a similar idea i.e no cups/underwire and are much more comfortable and in hindsight should have just worn these earlier on for comfort! If you’re planning on breastfeeding that could be an option? They have various sizes (S/M/L as opposed to cup sizes per se).

Honestly I see so many women think they are an A or B when really they're wearing a too large back size and are more like a 28D and that type of thing. What dress size are you? Definitely use boob or bust method to measure to give you an idea of size.

I wouldn't buy nursing bras just yet, last pregnancy I had to buy two lots of bras and then nursing bras all in different sizes! You could change size frequently and it's important to wear the right size. The only thing that you may be able to wear all the way through are things that are sized to cover a range of sizes. I have a Cake bra that I got in late pregnancy that is like that and it's so comfy I've continued to wear it afterwards too in-between pregnancy. It's not suitable for nursing though. I also like Emma Jane sleep bras, I've worn them as well at home or if I was staying over somewhere but you'd probably want more padding/support for out and about. You can breastfeed in these easily and I did with my last, just pull the stretchy cup down. I'm only 10 weeks with my second and it's looking like I am going to have even bigger sizes this time around as I've already outgrown my usual bras and really need to measure.

I bought some lovely bamboo bras from Seraphine which are really comfortable. I am a 32B normally and their small size fits me well at the moment (I'd say I've gone up a cup size, currently 18 weeks). I plan to just buy the next size up as and when needed!

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 09/03/2021 12:49

Get measured on boob or bust! I was wearing a 36c and should have been in a 34f. So many of us are wearing a band size too big to accommodate for small cups. Now pregnant and have jumped to a 36g.

boymum88 · 09/03/2021 14:25

I'm normally a b cup. for my first pregnancy I got non wired bras from Ann summers wore them to death long after baby was born ( they don't make then anymore 😭) I now live in Calvin Klein Bartlett things ( slept in them when 1st ds was born) easy just to lift up and whip a boob out when needed. I also found nursery bras from new look / hm do the job

BlueberryPancake21 · 09/03/2021 16:12

Pre-preg I was 34C so a little different to you but my boobs haven't really grown in pregnancy so I thought my experience might be relevant! I bought three lots of maternity/nursing bras as I wanted to be able to use for both:

Seraphine bamboo ones are comfy, breathable and will definitely expand if boobs grow when milk comes in. BUT I bought a medium per their size guide and the band is way too big even with a 36 week bump. I am expecting to have to ditch these after baby is born.

I have two Bravado bras and I love them both. The ballet bra is really comfy and will be fab for sleeping in (I don't need a bra for sleeping atm) and the style means can just move cups out of the way without clips. I can see myself living in this once baby is here and I am at home. The bodysilk sheer seamless nursing bra is more structured and I can wear out of the house. It fits nicely, looks pretty and has space to grow if needed. I would wear this every day if I could. I am tempted to get some of the bravado vest tops. Both of these are size medium and fit well.

I got a pack of two maternity and nursing bras from John Lewis and they just don't fit me. I got size medium and during pregnancy the band is digging in - just a bit too tight. Will probably fit post-partum. The cups are just way too small already - I'm falling out of the sides so I think they will never quite work. I wouldn't recommend these unless you really are still an A cup.

I haven't used it for BF yet as I'm still pregnant but I stopped fitting in all my regular bras and I bought a few of these as I figured an underwired traditional bra will only fit for a short amount of time and then I'll get bigger. These are comfy, don't look too bad on as it is crop top style and with the crossover I imagine pretty handy for feeding.

PurBal · 09/03/2021 17:26

I'm wearing crop top type bras with elastic. Came in size S, M or L so I didn't need to worry.

PurBal · 09/03/2021 17:27

@luxxlisbon like these!

Kimye4eva · 09/03/2021 17:36

If you are only just growing out of your normal bra you might not increase much more until after the baby arrives (I only went from 30c to 32c). And what fits you now almost certainly won’t fit once your milk comes in.

After my second child I got a few from Morrow and Mint. Much prettier and a better fit on me than anything I found after DC1. Being of smaller boob I wanted something that was padded and didn’t see many padded nursing bras other than on that website.

Cressie2 · 09/03/2021 18:10

Seraphine bras are great! x

TeaTimeReader · 09/03/2021 18:13

I really recommend the blow tops from H&M - they have an inbuilt bra and are stretchy so can go over bump & be used after pregnancy. The inbuilt bra means there is room for fluctuating boob size
