Bleeding at 15 weeks

I had issues with spotting from weeks 8-10. No cause found. Dating scan went perfectly at what was 13+1.

Today I stood up after teaching and felt a gush. Went to the loo to check and it was red blood. Soaked through my knickers and tights and was on my thighs.

Left work straight away and got home about 40 minutes later. Bleeding had stopped and was light pink on wiping. Advised to go to A&E due to amount. When got to hospital (40 minute drive) it was bright red again. Then reduced to not much/pink. Then back to red. Can feel it when red like you feel a period, if that makes sense.

A&E checked me over and said I’m physically okay. Were unable to do a Doppler check or scan due to no trained staff in A&E. They have sent a referral to EPAC who will get it in the morning and they will call me for a scan.

As you can imagine I am an emotional wreck. It took 2 MCs (before 7 weeks) before I was able to carry my son so the thought of losing this baby is cutting me to pieces.

Does bleeding that gushes at 15 weeks always mean miscarriage? Are there any statistics? I know reading positive outcomes won’t change whatever is happening inside of me, but perhaps some hope that it’s not a done deal might help me through the night.

I've had several gushes of blood during my pregnancy. One was around the same time as you. I've also had miscarriages so thought it was all over. As long as the bleeding doesn't contain clots, you're not in any pain and your cervix is closed then they are signs that the baby will be okay. They never found a reason for any of my bleeds. They said I was just one of those unlucky women.

They may give you the talk of "it could be a miscarriage" as I believe any heavy bleeding is counted as a threatened miscarriage and there's nothing they can do at this stage.

It is really difficult and a scary time but I just wanted to reassure you that it doesn't always mean bad news. Best of luck and try to stay positive. Keep your feet up until the bleeding stops.

I know from other women it doesn’t always mean a miscarriage and could be due to various things, some of them being a hematoma or a low lying placenta. Both of which I had, and had gushing blood. I’m afraid I had my baby prematurely at 18 weeks.

You’re in the right place, I would advise you take time off work- get seen by the docs and have your scan to identify what might be causing the bleeding and in the mean time try to stay off your feet, not carry anything heavy and I think needless to say no sex.

I’m sure others will be along soon with many positive outcomes.

I just wanted to say I had painless red bleeding and my cervix (which was checked every time I was admitted to hospital) was closed. So I don’t think those things are to go by as to whether it’ll be ok.

I was unlucky but I know many many women who had the same experience as me had healthy babies.

I had stop-start bleeding week 11 to 12 with DC2; I wouldn’t have any when I lay down, but i would if I stood up. They never found a cause, they said maybe it was a hematoma but no definitive answer. I really hope you have a good outcome OP BrewFlowers
