Are these products pregnancy safe?

I would never of thought that my cleanser/moisturiser may not be safe in pregnancy but after seeing a post elsewhere where people were talking about how many face products (that you can buy from boots/Superdrug) aren't safe it's got me a bit concerned now. These are the 2 face products I mainly use, they work well for me and it would be a nuisance to change them and find other ones. I don't know if this is just people scaremongering and people being way over cautious but I'm hoping someone with more knowledge will be able to clarify? Item (2) with ingredients attached. I haven't had any contact with a midwife yet to ask (I'm 8+5). Thanks in advance

With the exception of prescription skincare products (e.g.: for severe cases of acne) most over the counter cosmetics are safe because very little if any of the ingredients end up in your bloodstream.

Some people prefer to avoid salicylates (which the second one contains) - it depends on your approach. As the poster above says, even if the ingredient itself is harmful it's in the product in such tiny quantities and even less is absorbed. I technically avoid them but my go to products already didn't contain them so it wasn't a big deal for me - I think I'd have kept on using a hero product that contained salicylates/ salicylic acid.

Is it not retinoids that should be avoided ?

Oral retinols / vitamin A have been linked to problems with fetal development. They also recommend you avoid on-the-skin retinol but it's really just better safe than sorry (and low levels absorb via skin).

The same is true of salycilic acid (BHA) - orally associated with harm,on skin advised to avoid as a precaution. This is in one of your products, but in a v v tiny amount (itll be more high a % in exfoliant than in cleansers)

Theres also some chat about avoiding benzyl peroxide and chemical sunscreen. Again no proven harm but theoretically plausible (though again, way less likely via skin).

I found the following website really useful during pregnancy to know if make up etc was safe. You can ask about a product too, incredibly helpful!!!

I don’t believe there’s any skincare products that you can buy that you’d be told by the NHS not to use. Retinol is the main one people talk about but last time I checked there’s no actual information that it’s harmful in skincare (only it’s linked to vitamin a which is harmful if taken as a vitamin/ or eaten as liver etc). Aside from the ones mentioned by pp, I’ve also heard parabens mentioned. I agree with pp that so little would absorb through your skin it’s not a worry, and again, the nhs don’t advise not to use certain skincare products. You don’t hear of pregnant women changing all their skincare products! The only one I think a lot of people avoid is retinol xx
