Struggling to cope with all day sickness

I have had morning sickness for a couple of weeks, which has recently moved to all day sickness. It's triggered by smells so it's happening pretty much all day. Any tips for relief?

Talk to your gp and get some cyclizine. It's really safe, been prescribed for decades, and has really helped me.

I second going to the gp I tried to be a martyr and waited entirely too long and it really isn’t worth it.
There are some really helpful mum pages on Instagram who talk about hyperemesis (if that’s what you have) which may help.

Avoid the fridge, stop people from cooking smelly food and definitely another vote for going to the doctors

AegonT · 07/03/2021 21:03

Call your doctor they will probably prescribe cyclizine over the phone and that doesn't work there are other medications.

Coffeecake90 · 07/03/2021 21:21

As above, cyclizine made a huge difference for me. And dont let your stomach get empty- i know the last thing you'll feel like doing is eating, but honestly an empty stomach makes it so, so much worse

Thanks for the tips, I'll speak to GP. I've been mostly avoiding the kitchen full stop, here's hoping it settles soon.

Sea Bands were my saviour

Agree with all of the above. Please go to the GP. I had to have a proper telling off before I decided it's not just morning sickness/won't be taken seriously. Allow yourself the time and get signed off work if needed. I should have done this sooner.

Also listen to no one who suggests ginger biscuits!!

Real plain food like potato waffles, full fat coke, salt and vinegar crisps were the kind of things that I could stomach. Or if I couldn't stomach them then I'd get at least something out of it before puking!

Rest well!

My first pregnancy I was sick the whole way through, I'm now 31 weeks pregnant with my second child and was sick every day until 20 weeks. Last week I had the unfortunate experience of having gastroenteritis and ended up im hospital with dehydration- the doctor prescribed me cyclozine and was shocked that given my nausea/ vomiting history I'd never sought medication. Honestly OP, although it did make me feel a bit weird and drowsy it also sorted the nausea out really quickly and I'm kicking myself for suffering both times without asking for a prescription! The nausea really is rough and although the early weeks of being pregnant are a lovely and exciting time they're also pretty damn gruelling for a lot of us! Try and rest, eat little and often of literally whatever you can stomach the idea of (for me it was overcooked plain spaghetti and fizzy sweets both times 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️). But honestly if you're really struggling then do ask to give something like cyclozine a go x

Oh and someone else reminded me from their post above- I did try sea bands the second time around but only found them effective the first time I wore them to be honest, I'm not sure if part of the reason is that I have very thin wrists so after one use the elastic stretched a little and then there wasn't as much pressure where there needed to be? Might be worth a shot for you though!

HaNNaHC92 · 07/03/2021 22:37

I've had hyperemis on my three children (currently 32w with the 3rd baby now). I found being dehydrated made me feel so much worse. I also second all those who've said go to the doctors and get some medication. Cyclizine is what they'll prescribe first (it didn't work at all for me). Ondansetron is a pretty decent one if not.
