1cm tear at top of womb at 9 weeks pregnant

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I've been on here. I have a almost 3 y/o and last year sadly had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. We are pregnant again but had pink spotting this weekend. I've just come back from a scan and been advised that the baby is at 9 weeks and is moving and had heartbeat, but I have a 1cm tear at the top of my womb. The midwife was very matter of fact and I had to ask lots of questions to try understand the possible implications, what it could mean, what happens now etc? She said the tear could get bigger as my uterus stretches and cause more bleeding and lead to miscarriage. She said without a previous scan she can't compare to make any sort of proper judgement on it. I've to wait and see, if the bleeding persists for 2 weeks I've to call back, or if gets worse to call back immediately. So now I am in bits thinking I am essentially sitting waiting now for my uterus to continue tearing and kills my baby. I have tried Googling to see if this is common or the likelihood it could be ok but I'm not finding anything helpful. Has anyone had similar that they can share please?
TIA x

I have never heard of this but I am bumping for you. Can you get to talk to a consultant?

MammaBell · 07/03/2021 14:21

Thanks @SirVixofVixHall good suggestion, I will make some calls tomorrow when everything's back open to see if I can get any consultant help x

Have you looked in your notes to see if there's a medical term for it that they wrote down, it might make it easier to google. Sorry I can't be more help.

MammaBell · 07/03/2021 14:25

That's the annoying thing @Babyfg she didn't give me any medical term or any notes etc to take away or look at.

You need to ask to speak to your consultant and ask for a care plan. Waiting around for your uterus to rupture doesn’t sound like safe or sensible advice.

Won’t you need constant monitoring to watch the tear?
Can anything be done to assist the healing or prevent it from worsening?

I’d be seeking answers here.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/03/2021 15:09

Yes get calling tomorrow, rubbish to tell you something so frightening and then leave you with so little information. I hope you get some help tomorrow OP.

MammaBell · 07/03/2021 15:44

@frazzledasarock exactly, I feel like being left to go home and wait it out is pretty careless! She wouldn't even look at me while talking, kept typing away on the computer, and just stopped talking so I said "ok well goodbye then" and she said "good luck" again without even turning to make eye contact. I felt awful walking out of there x

A tear? This doesn’t sound right to me, I think she’s explained it clumsily. Did she mention haematoma/sub chorionic at all?

MammaBell · 07/03/2021 15:51

Hi @TheAuthorityofJackieWeaver no she didn't mention either of those but my husbands been Googling all afternoon and he asked me the same thing. He said he would like to think that it is this as it can be less risky if I look after myself etc. So this is a question I will be asking when I manage to speak to a consultant. I have also booked a private scan for next Friday to see if they can see it and if it's gotten any worse x

Is it subchorionic haematoma? I had this. DD 22m now.

EezyOozy · 07/03/2021 15:54

Oh sorry you've answered that.

MammaBell · 07/03/2021 15:55

Also @TheAuthorityofJackieWeaver my husband read that the bleeding from subchoronic can show up after intercourse (which is when it first appeared) and if straining to do a bowel movement (sorry so much TMI) but that is the two times the spotting appeared. I did tell the midwife this too x

If it does turn out to be that, there are some excellent support groups on Facebook.

MammaBell · 07/03/2021 15:57

@hassletassle what was your circumstances when you found out and how did they know that is what it was? She just told me she found the bleeding and the tear was 1cm....no mention of if it could be a clot or hematoma x

How could your uterus possibly tear inside of you in the absence of trauma or injury? I agree with pp it sounds like she meant something else like a hematoma. Probably just poor wording?

MammaBell · 07/03/2021 21:55

@anniebu I know, I really hope so that she has not explained it well...as a tear sounds terrible, my uterus is only getting bigger and I can only imagine how that'll affect a 'tear'. I've decided to take it easy from here on in, and get on the phone to the midwives tomorrow to get a different opinion or explanation of it. The girl today said I need to arrange for my 12 week scan to be brought forward anyway (as I'm further along than expected) and I was supposed to start aspirin at 12 weeks as my first born was underweight when she was born...so I need to know now whether that is ok or bad given the circumstances now.

Hey just an update to everyone. Thanks again for your comments and suggestions. I just managed to speak to a midwife at the EPU again (a different one to who did the scan yesterday) she read my notes and advised that is says I have an area of subchorionic haematoma (SCH) superior and inferior (above and below) the sac. However she seemed more optimistic that it is something that can often resolve itself and to monitor the bleeding, and if it gets more or different to just call straight back. But she said there is nothing alarming in my notes and no reason for any type of referral. She reckons the lady from yesterday has just not explained it well and used the word tear wrongly. However she is going to try speak to her to find out why she told me it was a tear?! I feel less alarmed now that it's not being called a tear...but obviously mindful that a SCH must also be monitored incase of complications. I'm praying it absorbs and heals and my wee baby will be safe x

@MammaBell I had a hematoma at around 6/7 weeks, had a bleed and then it went to brown discharge which lasted a couple of weeks.
Had my 12 weeks scan and it was gone, it was similar size to yours. The only thing I did was not pick up my two year old and drank plenty of water (I read somewhere it might help and thought it can't do any harm.)
The baby was completely unaware of all the drama, fingers crossed you get a similar outcome
