Thyroid TSH levels in early pregnancy

Hi,

I’ve found out I’m pregnant this week, I had an blood test MOT on 24/2 and my TSH levels came back as 4.1, my GP marked them as normal but obviously I didn’t know I was pregnant at this point.

I’ve seen lots of stuff on Dr. Google which says anything over 2.5 increases your risk of miscarriage, which has sent me into a blind panic. I’m going to call my GP tomorrow but has anyone had an experience of this?

Really sorry to hear that Flowers. Keep on at your GP, or get one who knows what they’re talking about. My GP admitted she didn’t know a great deal at thyroid problems, so she suggested I spoke to a different doctor at the practise. I was the referred to an endocrinologist as it was stopping me from getting pregnant.

@Cellwen @Thefaceofboe thanks, I’m fairly certain its my thyroid causing this issues, the first GP I spoke to even said primary care wouldn’t treat my thyroid but a fertility doctor would. I wish I could afford to to private and safe myself the waiting around and heartache but we’ve recently brought a renovated a house so that has zapped most of our savings. I’m going to try my GP again when I go in for my bloods

Hi chi chilly, did you have your bloods redrawn? My tsh has come down from 8.9 to 4.8 and now my dose has been increased to 50mg, been TTC for almost a year :(

@TTCThyroid2021 Hi, I had my bloods done in June and my TSH was 3.9 my GP is still refusing treatment. I've gone on to have another miscarriage since this post, 12 week scan showed baby passed at around 9 weeks. I've got an appointment for the recurrent miscarriage clinic in November so I will see what they say regarding the TSH levels but so far no luck with my own GP.

I’m so sorry for your losses :( my GP referred me to an endocrinologist when I said I was TTC and within two weeks they wrote back to say my tsh needed to be under 2.5 so if you can push your GP again or ask to speak to another it might be worthwhile. Sending lots of love

@TTCThyroid2021 I spoke to my GP a couple of weeks ago who said she knew nothing about TSH being under 2.5 when TTC, she even said she looked it up and phoned me back and said it was all still in trial stages so no evidence (obvs I know that's bulls*) and my TSH was normal so no treatment.. I left the last conversation with her in tears and actually cannot face talking to them again about it so I think I'm just going to hold off until I go to the Tommy's clinic in November.

Bless you that’s so frustrating but take some time for yourself and November will come around quickly x
