I'm 14 weeks and just found out when I was reading you shouldn't lay on your back when Pregnant, iv been laying flat on my back napping etc and now a little concerned , is it more for later on in pregnancy? I'm not showing much at all and don't feel dizzy or discomfort but obviously after reading it I'll stop laying flat on my back

I’m 17 weeks now and from everything I read you only need to start lying on your sides around the 16 week mark so you’re all good for another 2 weeks :) it’s to do with blood flow so lying on the left is best, but I can’t do that all night so I go asleep on my left and then shift between the two. If you don’t have a pregnancy pillow, get one. I found it made a huge difference

It’s also to do with the weight of your uterus aswell sorry forgot that part

Official guidance is 28 weeks to stop sleeping on your back, but if you're normally a back sleeper then try sleeping on your side sooner to get used to it by then. A pregnancy pillow may help.
Also they say not to worry if you go to sleep on your side but wake up on your back, just roll back onto your side.
I believe it doesn't really matter what side now, left might improve blood flow slightly more, but the right side is perfectly safe too.

I don't think you need to worry too much until later. I am 24 weeks and struggling as I've always been a serious back sleeper! Pregnancy pillow will definitely help. I put it under one side of my back so it sort of still feels like back sleeping but I'm actually tilted to the side

You don't need to worry too much until around 20 weeks. Then just anytime you wake up on your back, move onto your side, ideally left

It's after 28 weeks you're advised not to but it'll probably, depending on bump size, become more uncomfortable to do as you go along anyway and you naturally won't do it.

I’m a prolific back-sleeper!! I’m 10 weeks pregnant and I don’t think I’ve slept through a full night since finding out.. I’m usually SUCH a good sleeper, once my head hits the pillow I don’t wake til my alarm. But I read about sleeping on my back and I think I’m waking through the night as I’m anxious that I’m not sleeping right! I bought a pregnancy pillow which helps a little, I’m trying to make myself do it now so that when it gets to the 28-week mark I won’t do it as much!

Yes I have got a pregnancy pillow going to use it tonight seen baby yesterday and all is well ☺️ hopefully the pillow helps with comfort!

I’m a back sleeper and I’m now 32 weeks, haven’t had a full sleep in months. However I have the odd night slept on my back for a few hours just to try and get some sleep.

Cafeaulait27 · 08/03/2021 23:09

I love sleeping on my front 😩 I’m only 8 weeks but it’s not gonna be possible is it! I hate sleeping on my side xx

Grognonne · 09/03/2021 08:48

@Cafeaulait27 - I found with carefully placed pillows (one under hips and one under ribs), that stomach sleeping was fine! I used to fall asleep on my front and wake up on my back pre-pregnancy. Now I’m 30 weeks I side sleep with two pillows, arm over one, leg over the other, and I wake up in the same position.
