Hey everyone,

I'm being induced for medical reasons on 17th and have been told this will be done by bursting my waters then straight onto the hormone drip (due to health condition I then have 24 hours to deliver otherwise it will be a section). Can anyone share their experiences of the hormone drip please? Any advice?
Starting to get anxious!!

Thanks all xx

I had the drip OP, and it all went fine. Yes it hurt, but it was my first baby so I have nothing to compare it to. When the pain got too much I had an epidural. If I been offered gas and air to try first I would have tried that instead (not in the Uk, epidurals pretty are standard here). I didn’t want to deal with that level of pain for hours but actually it was all over much quicker than I had imagined it would be. I think it only took about 4 or maybe 5 hours from starting on the drip to DS being born. I think a lot of dilating happened while they were putting the epidural in. - was ready to push immediately afterwards, before they’d even had time to do the ice test to check the epidural was working. I think I only pushed for 20minutes or so. I could still feel the contractions but the pain went away after the epidural and I had no pain at all really during the birth - including during an episiotomy (my son was 2 weeks late and over 9lbs) and stitches afterwards. I was really pleased to have been able to avoid a c-section. Ask about epidurals at your next appointment - I also found it reassuring that if anything went wrong and they needed to use instruments or do a c-section or even anything afterwards like deal with a placenta getting stuck, they could just bolster the epidural rather than have to put in another form of anesthetic.
