Job offer- start date after baby due- help!

Hello,

I have been accepted for a newly qualified social worker position. I finish my degree in June- start date for the position is November.

I applied for this job when I was 6 weeks pregnant- i previously have had miscarriages and then an ectopic in sept 2020. So I didn't know if this baby was going to stick!

I'm now 15 weeks.

The council I have applied to have different start starts throughout the year for their newly qualified social workers. This year it's august, October and November.

Now, I could push and start in November; but this is my last baby and I feel as though I'd regret missing out on these early stages. I also would like to breastfeed. (I know I can pump etc).

Where do I stand legally? Could I tell them nearer the time that I am pregnant and are they willing to save a space for a cohort next year? Or can they say no?

I know the first four weeks of training is intense and you have to complete it; after that you can do part time which is what I'd like to do. But ideally not In November.

Any advice would be great; thank you!

(Also the position I have applied for I have two years to start from graduation)

Well if this position allows you to start up to two years from graduation what's the issue? Confused

Surely you just start at the next intake if you want to be home with your baby? Or am I missing something?

@titchy because I have been accepted for this position.

If I apply in two years time; who's to say I'd interview and get another job?

Sorry I probably didn't make that clear @titchy

It is an ASYE position. I have to complete an ASYE within two years of graduation.

This job I have been offered today is offering an ASYE role.

Ah ok, so the specific job doesn't give you two years, but in order to be employed as a newly qualified SW you need to start within two years of graduation.

When is baby due?

Legally they can't withdraw the job offer because of your pregnancy, so I'd have thought they'd be obliged to allow you to start with the August 2022 intake.

Prob worth posting in employment matters though to get the legal position.

@titchy that's it!

Okay thank you, do you know how I move a post onto there? Or do I need to repost again?

I think you can report your own post and ask MN to move it to a different topic.
