Early Gender Scan/Well-being Check

Hi all,

I am considering having an early gender scan/well-being check at 17 weeks and just wanted to know your thoughts?

Part of the reason for this is due to COVID, I won’t be having a 16 week midwife appointment so no heartbeat check. 12 week scan was 8th Feb and 20 week is 12th April so just want a bit of reassurance in the middle that everything is okay. I also wasn’t given any printed pictures at my scan and these are offered at the private scan.

The company i have found is Window to the Womb - has anyone used it ? They seem to have really good reviews however does anyone know how accurate early gender scan will be at 17 weeks ? Also, has anyone had one of these scans done and what was your experience like ?

Thanks Smile

I'm the same as you with not being happy to wait 7 weeks between my dating and anomaly scans. I have an appointment at window to the womb tomorrow, will be 16+4wk. I've had a private gender scan before with my son over a decade ago now, that one was with ultrasound direct around the same gestation. That was great and gender was very clearly visible. Really looking forward to seeing how much baby has grown.

Yes to pics. We got lots last time and they are included this time too.

Yes I loved window to the womb! We went at 16 weeks and my husband was able to be next to me and be part of it, which he couldn't at NHS scan. I wasn't shown or told anything at the NHS scan, she only turned the screen so I could see it for about 30 seconds at most. It's really a medical thing for them to check the baby's well being so I don't expect anymore than that.

At WTTW we spent a good 10 mins looking at the baby and watching him kick and move, it was magical, highly recommend!

I'm all for doing anything to reassure yourself. Anything to make it less stressful. If I could afford a bunch of scans, I'd probably be booking them every couple of weeks haha.

However, I don't think they check the heartbeat at your 16 week scan regardless anymore. Mine was done until 28 weeks and midwife said they rarely do them earlier now

Like you I have booked one for 17 weeks to find out gender at a private clinic. We had a 4d scan at window to the womb with my son! It was amazing and definitely worth it!

I went to window to the womb this Monday just gone. I was 17 weeks exactly and they were able to tell me the gender. If your not sure I would say go for it. Best decision I made. Even got a little peek at a 4d view. I was the same I couldn't wait that long between my 12 and 20 week scan x

I went to Window to the Womb at 16 weeks. It was great, they were so nice and even though baby was not cooperating they let me go for a walk/snack and then squeezed me back in (although it might be luck of the draw as I don't think they are meant to do that)

Was so worth it, as like you I wasn't able to hear the heartbeat due to 16 week midwife over the phone. I have also had my NHS anomaly scan since, and they agreed with the gender so it must be fairly accurate. I remember they said they needed to see three times before they would decide, and there were two in the room who both agreed so you're 99% going to get the right gender. Go for it!
