Induction // c section

hi,
I'm due an induction on Sunday with my second child. I'm just after peoples experiences please.

My first was induced at 39+6 and I had him 15 hours after the gel was inserted. This time baby is expected start is 39 weeks exact.

Doctors have mentioned that because baby is being induced early that the process could take some time more has anyone any experiences with this?

Also at my last consultant meeting it was heavily implied that the chances of a c section are high. Has anyone expected to go in for induction and ended up going through c section? If so how was this? I have already stated that the epidural is off the cards so the only way for c section is complete lights out.

I was induced at 39+3 with my 1st, as she wasn't really ready it was a slow process of 3 days and I had to have the hormone drip. The hormone drip makes contractions much worse than a natural labor (had 2 since her), she ended up in distress with cord round neck. G&A got me high as a kite and I ended up with an epidural, 7hr 38 from them breaking waters and starting drip.
Had an elective cesarean with my twins as they were breech, awake throughout as had a spinal block. Was a very calm experience and I felt well after despite heavy blood loss. Could walk within 12 hours and was fine the next day after catheter removed.

Why have you ruled out an epidural?

Chelyanne · 04/03/2021 17:48

Oh and I could walk within an hour after birth after my epidural.

VDM1420 · 04/03/2021 17:59

I'm absolutely terrified of it and the side effects it can create. I understand that its low risk but I'm still terrified no matter what anyone says to try and convince me otherwise :/

I really don't want a long stay in hospital as I have a 13 month old who I have only left for hours at a time not even a night before without him :/ got a feeling I'm going to have a stubborn monkey :(

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but my birth went as follows:

Induction started Tuesday, pessary inserted
Wednesday - more pessarys
Thursday night - waters broken, baby back to back
Friday 4amish, epidural as pain was excruciating

Baby got stuck, failed instrumental delivery then EMCS with a 4+ litre blood loss due to length of time induction took.

Is there any reason why you are against an epidural? I have a massive needle phobia and didn’t even notice them putting it in.

autumncountryleaves · 04/03/2021 18:03

There are many many more risks associated with a general anaesthetic

Mylittlesandwich · 04/03/2021 18:04

I am very overweight (I say this as the spinal risks are increased). I had a very positive experience of my c-section.

Chelyanne · 04/03/2021 18:06

Risks are extremely low with it so I wouldn't rule it out completely.
I spend 2 nights in after birth with all my natural deliveries mainly because they needed to monitor baby not me. Only the one night after my cesarean but they didn't want me to leave, I did have to nag a lot.
I'd never spent a night away from our 2nd until we had our 3rd, he was 16.5mth by that point so I know what you mean.

VDM1420 · 04/03/2021 18:07

Oh goodness :/ is there not a way I would just have this baby without labour? Click of the fingers? Wave the magic wand? Anything???

There may be more risks with GA but they are risks could deal with where as some of this risks with epidural i personally couldn't deal with

But the risks to the baby are much higher with a general, you are aware of this?

Obviously in an emergency that can’t be helped but i can’t seen why anyone would chose this option knowing that

Dkfhenzkghsm · 04/03/2021 18:10

Which risks are bothering you?

GreenSlide · 04/03/2021 18:19

Ha I am also wishing the stork could deliver my baby but sadly not. I have a terrible fear of needles but I managed through my first section and I'm sure I'll manage again if needed.
It just depends how your cervix is when it comes time to be induced OP. You can ask for your bishop's score...that'll tell you how likely it is that the induction will get started off ok at least.

Chelyanne · 04/03/2021 18:21

@VDM1420 my husband will not get a vasectomy because of the tiny risks of life long pain... now here I am 16+2 with baby number 6 lol

tonytiy · 04/03/2021 18:22

I pushed for a induction at 38 wks because they offered me a CS.
It didn't work so after the 3rd pessary I gave up & had an semi elective CS.

Koolandorthegang · 04/03/2021 18:22

Is there a reason why you’re being induced? Would you consider waiting to see if you went into labour instead?

tonytiy · 04/03/2021 18:23

I had an epidural, why do you not want one?

Koolandorthegang · 04/03/2021 18:25

I had an induction that ended in a section.

Induction stated 7 am Wednesday - pessary
Thursday 12 pm - gel
Thursday 5 pm - waters broken manually then drip, epidural until Friday morning 9 am. Could not get past 9 cm and baby’s head stuck so had a section

tonytiy · 04/03/2021 18:28

sorry just saw the update about it.
I was fearful too.

I didn't enjoy the experience of the actual CS because I didn't like the passiveness of it if that makes sense but it wasn't long. I had a VB previously & would chose that however the CS was the right choice for dc2.

tonytiy · 04/03/2021 18:32

Oh & I was induced with my 1st & really struggled to find positive stories. I had a pessary, they said it was unlikely to work so I went on a long walk. Contractions started that evening, no other intervention & 1.5 hours of active labour later baby was here.

Screwcorona · 04/03/2021 18:38

If you dont want epidural the doctors (and other people here) should respect your wishes. Mine was a long induction and did end in csection. I hadn't given birth before though, and from speaking to multiple women about induction experience, having given birth before seems to make a huge difference. Your chances are better of it going smoothly, even though it may still be longer than your last labour

alexio · 04/03/2021 18:54

I got induced at 38+5 with my 1st went in on Wednesday had the pesarrys on both Wednesday and Thursday. Nothing happened by Friday and ended up with a c section on the Friday night. Had a spinal which was fine, up and about 8 hours after surgery and discharged 24hrs after surgery.
12 months down the line I'm awaiting the arrival of baby no.2 by c section
