Preventing eczema in newborn

My eldest had a little bit of eczema as a newborn, I always felt it was made worse by the moisturiser I'd used on him early on.

What is the best thing to use? I've done a bit of reading and using nothing seems the main thing but there's lots of variation for what to use if they are showing dry skin

We use Cetraben cream and bath additive and a healthy amount of sudocreme which is OK, but not great. The best thing we found was the steroid cream the Dr prescribed.

I'm not a Dr so worth doing additional research but I have recently had great success with the Aveeno Baby Eczema range. My sisters dermatologist recommended it for her son when he had some eczema patches on his face and legs. It's helped my moderate eczema more than anything else I've tried. It actually stops the itching faster than steroids (for me) and does a really good job at controlling redness and dry skin.

In general avoid anything with a fragrance, ESPECIALLY essential oils!

Just use creams that have natural ingredients and not perfumed.
All our kids have had infant eczema and outgrown it by 2 years.

We found keeping baths to a minimum worked for us. We bathed her once a fortnight but gave her a sponge clean regularly.

Thank you.. I'm hoping to use something quite natural rather than the heavier prescribed creams. I've read about using sunflower or coconut oil.. anyone got experience of those?

We use nothing most of the time, and weleda baby general shampoo/ wash and the nappy cream if he needs anything. Burts bees oil

He was very scaley and peeley after washing the first few months , so we only used water, and midwife recommended bath only 1-2 times per week max. Then oil with the burts bees straight after bath and the next day if needed.
It really helped and now (10 months), he is fine to have bath/ shower more often if needed ie banana in his hair, and we use the weleda baby wash and it’s great, it goes almost cloudy in bath so non drying.
The weleda nappy ointment it great, tiny tube, and I think we are still on first tube. Only use if he’s red for some reason, which is usually only if he’s pooped during car journey home or similar and not changed the second he’s gone.
