Second c section experiences

Hi everyone,
To those of you ladies who have had multiple c sections... I just wanted to hear your recovery experiences?
My first was pretty smooth sailing a couple of years ago. I had a planned c section and was out of hospital within 24 hours and felt myself within a few days.
I've been reading the second c section is harder to recover from as there's more scar tissue etc... And I'm starting to freak out.
Thanks very much xxx

My second was much harder to recover from if I’m honest, however my third was the easiest of them all recovery wise so I don’t necessarily think it’s to do with scar tissue.
Keep up with the painkillers, don’t overdo it, big knickers etc, you’ll be ok. Hopefully be no worse than the first.

WalkingMeAway · 03/03/2021 18:03

I’m afraid my second was much harder to recover from. My first was a breeze in comparison. I also suffered from a nasty infection that took 10 weeks to heal.

I would advise to rest as much as you can and keep up on your meds. I think personally, I overdid it, following my first experience.

I am due my third so that’s amazing to hear @Mummysgonetobed! Here’s hoping to a similar experience 🤞🏻

My second was easier. I knew what I was doing! I asked for codeine on my drug chart before the op so they didn’t have to try to find a doctor if I needed more than paracetamol Hmm and kept right on top of the painkillers.

Moominmiss · 03/03/2021 18:07

My second and third were far easier recoveries than my first.

The third section took longer itself as there was more scar tissue for the surgeon to get through, but the recovery was a breeze!

I’m due my fourth section and hoping for the same!

Thanks for all your replies :)
I will definitely be saying yes to all the painkillers!
I think some of the reason I recovered so well the first time was my husband did all the lifting of our child on that first night. But am worried I'll be doing all of that this time due to covid rules at the hospital. Does anyone know if hospitals are due to relax their 'no partners overnight' any time soon?!

Me second was easier but my first was emergency so had all that comes with that. The elective was a dream in comparison. 1 night in hospital, up and walking within a few hours, scar healed with no complications.

zxy12 · 03/03/2021 18:14

My second was easier as I didn't have a spinal leak (?) from the epidural and knew what to expect. I had my section at lunchtime and was home by the same time the next day (even being a private patient where they encourage you to stay).

I'm no superwoman but I found it a lot easier being at home where I could get a good night's sleep and my husband could lift the baby which I found really hard twisting round in a hospital bed.

Sarcobaleno · 03/03/2021 18:24

Second much easier but first was an emergency. No trouble with second at all. Took much longer to lose the baby belly though.

Garman · 03/03/2021 18:37

My second was much easier to recover from because I was fitter, knew what to expect and had to get moving sooner with a 2 year old to mind too!

ShyTown · 03/03/2021 18:46

Both of my c-sections were elective. I had double the amount of bleeding with second versus first but the recovery was pretty breezy with both. The doctor cut out all of the old scar, whatever that means. I’m almost 3 weeks post the second and feel pretty much myself again.

MonkeyPuddle · 03/03/2021 18:52

Second was much the same as the first pain wise, but I knew how to deal with it better.
I took my own paracetamol and ibuprofen into hospital with me so that I could take it dead on time rather than having to buzz the midwives and wait for it.

RandomDent · 03/03/2021 19:49

Turn the cot so it’s perpendicular to the bed, not parallel. You can pick up without twisting then.

Redskyyy · 03/03/2021 19:56

My second (elcs) was much harder to recover from than my first (emcs). It took about 3 weeks until I could stand up from sitting on the floor/ get in and out of bed without pain. I was in for 5 nights but apparently the norm was 3 for second sections according to my consultant. Good luck!

Pandemicpregnancy · 03/03/2021 19:56

I had my LO 5.5 months ago via emergency section. She's my first baby so I have no experience of what a second section is like but thought I would just reassure you about the postnatal stay during covid times. The midwives were all so helpful as they know you don't have a partner there so appreciate you need more support. I didn't have to do any lifting as they changed her nappy for me and passed her to me for feeds and cuddles. They even looked after her for most of the night for me so I could rest, and fed her using my syringes of colostrum.

DwangelaForever · 03/03/2021 19:57

Second was much easier in some ways than my first -first was emergency and I bled and bled and bled for weeks and this wasn't the case with my second.

Although my second did get infected and wouldn't get better (turns out one of the stitches didn't dissolve properly)

There were 23 months between my 2 sections. I think knowing what to expect the second time around really helped in recovery.

Threebecomesfour · 03/03/2021 20:13

@pandemicpregnancy thank you for this. Really nice to hear.

I recovered well and quickly from both of mine (they were 17 months apart)

sunnydaleslayer · 03/03/2021 21:35

My third was the easiest to recover from.

It may have a lot to do with the fact it was planned and the first two emergencies but recovery was a breeze in comparison.

TheCatWithTheFluffyTail · 03/03/2021 21:38

My third was the easiest recovery and my fourth the hardest.
