How do freestanding birth units work?

I have opted to give birth at a freestanding MLU as it’s very quiet and relaxed. When I’m in labour, a midwife (and a maternity support worker?) have to come over from the MLU at the hospital.

If they finish their shift, I presume another midwife relieves them? I’m not sure if you can stay overnight or if they discharge you around 6 hours after birth if no complications?

At the MLU here, the midwives are already there as they have their shifts there. Rather than being sent over from the hospital. So someone will automatically be there for their shift when others ends

(it's also a free standing MLU)

They just switch shifts, so they disappear for 10 mins whilst one briefs another, but they're already there.
