Getting new fixed term job when pregnant

Hi All, looking for some advice/reassurance.
I’ve just verbally accepted the offer for a fixed term position (a maternity cover in a school), but found out about a week ago that i am pregnant!
I know the school isn’t allowed to discriminate but they are looking for someone to complete a year and i will only be able to do about 6 months.
has anyone gone through this?
i want to be upfront with the school - should i tell them now even though it’s early (7 weeks)? or wait for the 12 week scan?
would anyone think i should withdraw my application? (i don’t want or intend to, i’m confident i was by far the best candidate as it’s hard to recruit mid year).
thanks in advance for any advice Smile

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I really don't think you should withdraw your application.
I think you should wait until your 12 week scan before telling them.
It's not ideal for them if you leave after 6 months but you do what you've got to do.
Are you employed atm? Be aware that if you change jobs now you'll be entitled to Maternity Allowance (£150/week) so if you're currently employed and would get enhanced maternity pay, that's something to consider.

thanks Emma!
i'm just in a casual role at the moment with very sporadic work so won't be eligible for proper maternity pay anywhere Confused not ideal!
i have a 13 month old at home and am still
in shock about this pregnancy, it was not planned - i wouldn't choose such a small age gap but it's a blessing and i want to get excited just feeling really unsure about this work situation.

If it's any consolation, the only difference between SMP and Maternity Allowance is for the first 6 weeks - after that they're the same amount.

From what I've heard about having 2 under 2, it's hard work but also lovely to have children close in age - plus if you stop at 2 you're getting the hard part over with quicker Grin
