I'm 30 weeks pregnant and have a dental appointment this week. Have suddenly felt it might not be a good idea given the stage of pregnancy I'm at. Not having any tooth probs so not strictly necessary for me to go though would risk charge (private dentist)... Safe to go or no?

Just a dentist appointment check up is fine. They won't do any work though like fillings ect if you're pregnant

Perfectly safe to go to the dentist.
I would decline any routine xrays during pregnancy, not harmful to baby but can wait if there are no signs of problems. They can do fillings if they are needed but I think they avoid the silver ones.

Sorry, I think my thought process was more along the lines of... I've been sent to work from home as I'm now over 28 weeks gestation, is it then safe for me to attend an optional appointment?? (eg. nobody was 6inches from my face breathing on me in work surely this is more risky haha) x

They are one of the most hygienic places you can visit, very little risk.
I have a checkup in a little over a week and have no concerns, I took all our children for theirs a couple of months ago.

Ive had to visit the dentist during pregnancy having issues tho and had no option. But trust me your dentist realises how easily passed covid is through their line of work and they dont want to catch it as much as you. Mine was double masked, face sheild, goggles the lot. A movable clear sheet/visor had been placed to give further protection too and they done rapid testing for staff before they started work every morning and temperature checks for everyone entering the building. So I would say it is more than safe to go as long as you also take the proper precautions. Im surprised you have an appointment just for a routine thing, all appointments in my area are strictly emergency only. But if you have no issues im sure it can wait till baby comes.

As someone who works at a dentist, I can assure you it’s one of the safest places you can visit! Plenty of PPE and measures in place. Keeping up with routine care is so important so definitely still go. Many people have been putting off going and then not caught things early which then develop into more advanced treatment. Also I’m pregnant myself and go everyday!
