VBAC induction

Hi all, I'm 41+1 weeks pregnant and I'm heading in for an induction tomorrow morning but I'm attempting a VBAC in the UK.

Just wanted to hear if anyone else has been induced when trying for a VBAC and what your experience was.

How exciting @TeaPiglet! I was attempting a VBAC with my second (12 weeks old now) but they wouldn't let me have an induction in this area. They said all VBACs had to start naturally so it's great you're getting that chance!

I did actually go into spontaneous labour 9 days late, but due to meconium in the waters and then baby distress it very quickly turned into another emergency C-section.

I have a couple of friends who have had successful VBACs so there is every chance it will happen for you. Wishing you all the luck in the world 🥰

Following with interest. I'm desperate for a VBAC after a horrific crash caesarean with my twins, but I'm likely to suffer with obstetric cholestasis again which I know will mean an induction by 38 weeks. After my last birth my consultant told me that a VBAC would be encouraged in any future pregnancy (he knew I'd had OC), but I've only just recently discovered that VBAC often isn't allowed with an induction. It's completely devastated me tbh, spent the last few days in tears and dreading the birth now. I have my first consulant appointment on Thursday with the same consultant so I plan to bring it up then.

I was induced at 42weeks with a VBAC, with the cooks balloon, walked around for hours, waters broke, ended in another emergency c section. I wish I could go back in time and just go straight for a c section and saved my self all the pain.

Well damn...

@TeaPiglet I had a successful vbac but went into spontaneous labour. Have you had a sweep yet? Was your previous baby also late?

Lisyloo725 · 28/02/2021 22:22

Hi Ladies
I was induced for my vbac in 2017 in SW London.
I was able to have the drip, but admittedly not at as high a dose as if I didn’t have a c section scar.
They did artificial rupture of membranes- which is supposed to get labour going but it’s didn’t.
After more drip and epidural...I did get to 10cm, but I was only allowed to push for an hour (again linked to presence of scar) which went realllly quickly. It was then forceps and vontousse in a theatre for me.
Good luck with your births.

I have to admit as I’m pregnant now with my third, of the two routes, I’ll be choosing planned c section. 😬

lorisparkle · 28/02/2021 22:29

I really wanted a VBAC but after two weeks overdue I discussed induction with my consultant. Whilst she said I could have an induction she did mention an increased risk. I decided that I would rather have a planned c-section.

I have been incredibly lucky and have had 3 very calm and successful c-sections and whilst I never did get the birth I imagined I do feel very grateful for the experiences I did have.

I had pre-eclampsia with my second so had to be induced at 36 weeks, after 4 failed inductions, artificial membrane rupture and 11 hours of pitocin with only gas and air I had an emcs at 36+6 and she was 6lb 3oz after being estimated to be 8lb+

SamoyedFan123 · 01/03/2021 10:48

Good luck @TeaPiglet xxx

bubblegeek22 · 01/03/2021 14:39

Best of luck today OP!
Just wanted to share my story with you.
It was a successful induced VBAC, the birth itself was lovely, the after bit not so much.
I had the pessary which over stimulated my uterus and I went from zero to mega full on contractions in half an hour but wasn't dilating so I needed an injection to calm my uterus down again.
But that kick started actual labour, the pessary went in at 9am and she was born 2040 that evening. So not all inductions are dragged out! And I was 38 weeks.

I'll spare you the details of afterwards as you need positive stories right now but I'll tell you in a few weeks if you want to know 😂

Best of luck!!
