Is third trimester sleep even possible?

Hi
34 weeks on Tuesday and for the last month or 2 my sleep has been so crap!
I usually wake once for a wee and then I'll wake at 5/5.30 and cannot get back to sleep. I even woke up at 3.15 last weekend!!

Did anyone else go through this or are going through it right now? Is it even normal?

32 weeks today and wide awake! I'll wake up in the night and I'm just wide awake - can't go back to sleep again. I'm dying for a good 10 hours!

practicalworrier · 28/02/2021 06:08

Been awake since 3 here. And used to it sadly!

Thack · 28/02/2021 06:14

36 weeks. Been getting up for a wee once a night (which seems to be good going), about 2-3am. Past 3 nights been awake til 5-6am where I'll nod off.
I think it's linked with stress for me. I had bad insomnia 1st trimester and these last two weeks in work are going to be stressy.

How've you been feeling with everything OP?

Meomeomeo · 28/02/2021 06:19

29 weeks here and I’ve only been in 3rd trimester for a week and out of that 3 nights awake since 4am. Not to mention I wake up every 2hrs to pee the entire pregnancy so far

maryberryslayers · 28/02/2021 06:20

No. I woke up at 5 today and considered it a lie in!

36 weeks and on mat leave from Monday so I'm looking forward to daytime naps.

MaverickDanger · 28/02/2021 06:25

God I’d have taken the amount of sleep that you’re getting! I averaged 4 hours over two sessions in my last trimester & then got another hour nap in the afternoon.

I’m genuinely getting more sleep now with a newborn than I did in my third trimester, so there is light at the end of the tunnel!

DisgruntledPelican · 28/02/2021 06:29

Yeah, it’s unpleasant. I found it easier once mat leave had started - I used to feel sleepy again from 8am and a couple of hours lie-in would make a difference.

If it helps, the quality of sleep improves once the baby arrives, even if the opportunities are limited. It’s rubbish, but I promise you will sleep again.

(whispers) have you tried masturbation? Honestly in late pregnancy it really helped - or at least passed the time!

mummabubs · 28/02/2021 07:03

I'm 29 weeks with my second child and insomnia has well and truly hit. I'm averaging 2-4 sleep a night and hanging as a result 🤦🏻‍♀️

Nazz10 · 28/02/2021 07:12

Oh I'm glad it's not just me then!
I think it's a mixture of things; stressed about everything to do with baby (first time mum), stressed that we don't have everything yet but every frigging shop is closed (except supermarkets) so everything bought online/sold out! Stressed about work. It's my last week next week though! And then stressed about not sleeping 😂
I also think it could be that turning over is a huge effort and I am waking because I'm uncomfortable and know I need to turn over.

I can't usually sleep in the day either but yesterday I had an hour nap in the afternoon for the first time since I did night shifts 2 years ago. So exhausted!

@Thack I've been feeling ok I guess. Just stressed as the above and struggling with moving around because I'm so big now and I only have a tiny frame. How have you been feeling?

Yes it's easier in third trimester than when the baby arrives 😂

UnCoffreDor · 28/02/2021 08:20

Yes, I can totally relate, the other night I woke up at midnight for no reason and only went back to sleep at around 5am. But that was a first, usually I wake up for maybe an a hour. Sleep positions are restricted with the big bump, so finding a comfy position is tricky!

Chelyanne · 28/02/2021 08:48

I couldn't sleep much more than an hour at a time at the back end of my twin pregnancy. I was huge and had spd so would be woken by pain and have to adjust. I was exhausted but still had 3 kids and a husband with a broken leg to take care of so plodded on. Little sleep is good prep for the 1st few months of baby feeds.

BaaHumbugg · 28/02/2021 11:37

Totally normal here too, I slept better when the baby came last time so hopefully it will be the same this time! I did get a full 8 hours the night before I gave birth last time, must have been my body giving me a rest in preparation Grin
