Third trimester teacher

Are there any teachers who are currently in their third trimester and unable to return to work? What has your headteacher said? I'm a primary school teacher and have been teaching online since January (recording lessons)- I have found this really isolating and have had very little support from my school. I was hoping to see my class and sort my classroom out before my maternity starts in April but my headteacher is not even allowing me to enter the building. Are there any other teachers in a similar position? No idea what work I'll be tasked with when the children are back on 8th March. At that point the online learning will be redundant. Feeling fed up.

Not in primary but also a teacher and 29 weeks. Won't be allowed back for face to face teaching. Will be given admin tasks to do until maternity starts. I am concerned that my husband is also a teacher and goes back from the 8th. I can't see the difference between me being in school or him tbh in regards to the risks!

The difference is that if both you and husband were at work, you'd be in contact with 2 classes worth of children/families. With only your husband at work, you are reducing the number of contacts you both have by half. Your husband being at work with a class of kids is not the same as both of you being in a classroom of children.

I believe its because government guidelines suggest from 28 weeks that they should find work elsewhere for you

My partner is also a teacher and will be going back to school full time from 8th March. Being pregnant, I am at no more risk of catching the virus, but could possibly become more unwell- there are some links to preterm birth but the evidence of this is quite limited and sketchy.

I’ve been told I’ll be doing interventions over teams when children go back. I’m personally pleased that I won’t be going back to school before my maternity leave starts as I don’t want to risk catching anything so close to my due date, I’m 34 weeks. But I can understand how you’d feel not sorting your classroom and saying goodbye. I have a very good relationship with my TA so she has offered to sort things out if needed. And I’m going to do a goodbye video for my class too.
