Does anyone know what the rules are with this in pregnancy.
I have been offered a jab, however I'm about 9 weeks pregnant. I'm thinking maybe 2nd trimester, but will they do it if they know I'm pregnant. Really not sure what to do. Baby is due october and worry as that's when numbers increased last year

I was offered it due to work but midwife said they are advising not to have it. That was about a month ago.

Skymum82 · 26/02/2021 11:57

Will we be able to have them after do you think? So difficult

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and not sure what to do, I'm CEV so already been offered, I'm currently shielding so hence haven't felt the need to have it, however it looks like shielding is going to end in April, I will 30 weeks plus by then and work in retail, so no idea what to do!

I'm in a similar situation and just off the phone to my gp. Offered the vaccine but 10 weeks pregnant but its a different team that do the vaccinations. She understood and agreed with me wanting to go ahead and get it but she didn't know if they would actually give it to me. The info on it is changing all of the time she said that only a few months ago they were advising anyone that wanted to conceive not to take it and that has completely changed, she thinks the official advice will change soon. I am in two minds about whether I turn up on the day and hope they do it, or whether to rebook for a later appointment a few weeks away and hope they are clearer in the guidance around it. The only issue is I will return to face to face teaching in a few weeks and having the vaccine from that perspective would be ideal now as I feel with my own kids in school and me with hundreds of kids in high school (even if they distanced initially) it will only be a matter of time before I catch it. Weighing it up I think if I catch it that will be more harmful to the pregnancy than the vaccine. The advice in America is to take it whenever it's offered, the advice in Ireland seems to be to get it when you're 13 weeks and most of the other stuff I've seen is to discuss it with your GP.

Thank you I'm struggling too, I think I would feel better in second trimester (maybe after scan in case something is wrong and I will blame my self). Seems on here more and more are getting it too. My worry is everything opening and everyone mixing once I'm in my third trimester and the chances of catching it.
You must be even more worried.
Such a difficult decision. I think I may do what your doing wait a few more weeks and see what happens. In a month they maybe offering all pregnant women it.

Hi all, there are some good recent threads about this recently

Such as: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/4174167-Would-you-take-covid-vaccine-pregnant

And a few older ones if you search HCP and vaccines (sorry on my phone so links are hard to generate).

I’ve had mine recently. Am not ECV - other than stage of pregnancy - but am a HCP continuing frontline work. Honestly I found my GP out of date with the RCOG guidance. The green book now always pregnant women to choose, provided they inform you of the risks about the lack of data.

In terms of information. I found this helpful to weigh up risks and benefits: www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/should-you-get-covid19-vaccine-while-pregnant-heres-what-experts-say?cmpid=int_org=ngp::int_mc=website::int_src=ngp::int_cmp=amp::int_add=amp_readtherest

It contains source links to some of the original scientific articles and the beginnings of the cohort data that is emerging (Ie. From the 15000+ pregnant women vaccinated in the USA)

@Skymum82 for what it’s worth. I waited until I was second trimester. HCP’s in Ireland are being advised similar (or were, when I spoke to friends two weeks ago. It changes quickly!)

Current UK government guidance is to not have it when pregnant but it is fine if breastfeeding. I think I'd be comfortable having it pregnant as no vaccine has ever affected women during pregnancy, but I'd probably follow guidance.

Thanks for this, it’s really helpful! I am definitely keen to take the vaccine because I think there’s a good chance I will get Covid. If not at my work, from my kids who will bring it home from school. I also worry @Skymum82 that everything will open back up again and people will think everyone vulnerable has been vaccinated and we will end up at even more risk than before, but that also makes me think they will recommend the vaccine to us soon. A friend of mine lost her mum recently to Covid and ended up in hospital herself with it so it feels very close to home. She said she had a fever for days on end that wouldn’t come down. I’ve had the flu whilst pregnant before (despite taking the vaccine) and really struggled to keep my temperature down with just paracetamol, so the thought of that alone is really pushing me towards the vaccine asap.
