Yes, you read that right!
Its an unexpected miracle. But I'm utterly utterly terrified. This is my first pregnancy and I just wondered if anyone had any experience with an older pregnancy and what to expect. Do I have more scans or drs appointments and I've been reading about amniocentesis and scaring myself to death!

I've only just found out and not had my first midwife appointment yet! Any information would be so so appreciated!

Thank you so much xx

I don't have any information on this, however, my best friend's mom had a natural pregnancy at 45 and has a very healthy sister.
Heartfelt wishes

Congratulations! Flowers

Yes, I'm sure the midwives and consultants will look after you more than younger mums - hopefully that will be reassuring to you and a source of extra support. Before an amniocentesis you can also now get the harmony test which is non invasive. Best of luck! Enjoy your pregnancy Smile

Seeleyboo · 26/02/2021 06:29

Congratulations. I was in my 40s when I unexpectedly fell twice. Both pregnancies went well. More scans for me as I have a heart condition so no idea if you would. Just relax and enjoy your time. Well done OP.

Congratulations!!!

I had my 2nd at 45.

The only extra appointments I had were due to issues which were totally unrelated to my age - antibodies in my blood and a low lying placenta. In fact, once I’d had a clear CVS at 10 plus weeks, I was the only person who ever mentioned my age, which I found surprising, yet comforting.

I eventually had a totally natural birth at ten days past my due date.

I found it hard to contain my anxiety throughout but in truth, it was all very normal and straightforward.

All the very best - and try to enjoy if you can!

babyyodaxmas · 26/02/2021 06:43

Not me but a friend had her little girl at 46 (her first and only). Single Mim, they are amazingly close little girl is now 11.

rwalker · 26/02/2021 06:46

My sisters friend was 51 All fine and all good

Shangrilalala · 26/02/2021 06:51

PS you mention amniocentesis. Early invasive testing like amino or CVS is optional and if you go for it, you’ll likely be in the hands of a skilled professional who has performed countless procedures. The thought is scary, yes - the reality less so and it gave me invaluable information which helped ease some of my anxieties. As a PP says, there are non invasive options too.

I just had my first at 40 with no problems at all. As I was 40 I was put on 150mg aspirin I think to keep blood pressure down although it wasn't high to start with and I had a call with a consultant who said they don't like older mothers to go past their due date as the risk of stillbirth increases so I was booked in for an induction at 40 weeks but baby arrived early at 38 weeks.

perfectpanda · 26/02/2021 07:00

I had mine at 44. I had aspirin in 1st trimester , harmony test (which was fine), and then extr 4 weekly scans later in pregnancy, referral to a consultant, and was induced at 40 weeks. Much of my 'more intense ' monitoring was due to a previous late miscarriage rather than my age. It was such a straightforward pregnancy in the end and he is now 3. I really do relate to the shock and anxiety of the 1st trimester but I settled in to it after the harmony test. I hope all goes well for you.

oscarandelliesdad · 26/02/2021 07:03

Oh wow, how exciting! Massive congratulations Flowers

sandgrown · 26/02/2021 07:05

I had my last baby at 45 . I opted for amnio. Blood pressure increased at the end so I was checked daily and they decided to induce as soon as I reached full term. Despite 6 attempts baby was sitting tight so I had a c section . He is now a 6’2” strapping young man. Good luck OP.

DinkyDaisy · 26/02/2021 07:31

Congratulations!
I had my second over 40. The only change was that they didn't want me to go over 40 weeks. Midwife thought I could go over as healthy and all seemed well.
However, due to consultant giving age related advice, started to have sweeps at just before 40 weeks and ds 2 arrived on his due date.
All well.
I did have NT scan which was ok. That was pushed to me.
The only negative experience I had was with a very young doctor who gave me age related doom talk. I cried as I was leaving the building and the dr who had done NT scan saw me, Was very reassuring and as I left saw him marching crossly towards dr who had scared me!
I wish you the best of luck!

Congratulations! I’m pregnant and 48! Welcome to the club. It’s going pretty smoothly so far. I’m 28 weeks today with achey hips.

LittleTiger007 · 26/02/2021 09:53

Ps.... it’s my first too!

Daisylookslost · 26/02/2021 11:56

Ladies this is amazing congratulations! And gives me hope for a friend of mine who is trying in her 40s.
I just wanted to reiterate what previous poster/s have said that anything invasive is absolutely your choice. You might get more persuasion to consent to certain tests than younger mothers but it’s up to you! Make sure you are fully informed of pros/cons before making decisions. I found a useful phrase to master when I was expecting and shortly after birth was “I’m declining”. I’m not saying decline medical intervention! But there are so many choices you’ll need to make and they should be yours and yours alone. Just know that you are fully in charge of your body just like you were before you were pregnant, and you can exercise that right.
All the best!

SamoyedFan123 · 26/02/2021 12:43

Congratulations OP, amazing news 😊 I'm 43 and almost 21 weeks pregnant with number 3. 1 & 2 (twins) were born when I was 41. My age has barely even been mentioned by a HCP during either pregnancy, and it's honestly been the best time of my life.

Shwubberwy · 26/02/2021 13:21

Huge congrats, OP! Flowers

BabloHoney · 26/02/2021 13:22

Bu2014 · 26/02/2021 14:05

CongratsSmile
I'm 44 and 28 weeks pregnant with my second (first was at 37.5yrs). Under observation with specialist consultant along with the midwife team. Will be having extra scans and midwife appointments and recommended the harmony test to test for abnormalitiea which I took and luckily didn't have to have amniocentesis. I feel very looked after.

KLM25 · 27/02/2021 10:41

That’s lovely, congratulations 😊
I’m 46 and just over 28 weeks pregnant with my first. So far so good! I’m booked in for extra scans and consultants appointments at 28, 32 and 36 weeks along with the standard midwife appointments. I feel very well looked after - I’ve felt that every HCP I’ve come into contact with has been genuinely happy for me and I’ve felt zero judgement about my age.
I’m also taking 150mg aspirin daily and would recommend the Harmony test.
Despite the endless lockdowns, pregnancy has really been one of the best times of my life so far, especially as I had feared that it might never happen for me. I can feel our baby kicking away as I write 😊
Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy!

BrandoraPaithwaite · 27/02/2021 11:06
