Premature birth in twins ( or singletons) outcome

Hi everyone,

I am currently 19 weeks expecting MCDA (identical) boys and there is a good possibility they will be delivered early due to some growth issues.

I just wanted to know from twin moms or even singleton moms who had to deliver early - 25 weeks onwards - how much did the babies weigh, how long they were in the hospital for, and if there were any complications that delayed them coming home.

Thanks so much x

Hi there

I had DCDA twins born via emergency c section last month - placental abruption and haemorrhaged. I was 34w5. I had previously been diagnosed with SIUGR as smaller twin was much smaller than other twin the entire pregnancy

Little twin was born just over 4lb
Big twin was over 6.5lb

They had one night in NICU and then were in SCBU for a further 2 weeks.

Twins came home at around 37 weeks

My hospital policy was that premature babies have to be taking a minimum 50% of feeds either from a bottle or breastfed (as opposed to being tube fed - all premature babies are tubed). So it very much depends on how your babies are progressing? I wanted to breastfeed so would stay at the hospital 8am to 5pm to establish breastfeeding. Took little twin much longer to get going

My hospital has a transitions ward you stay overnight for up to 10 days to get used to feeding babies 24/7. I did 2 nights and then we all came home but I'm not a first time mum. First time mums stayed much longer

We could have taken babies home with their feeding tubes in as nurses can train you to feed that way but it's a big responsibility and my twins were constantly pulling their tubes out
