I feel like a freak! None of the girls on my ante-natal (due nov) seem to have piles - except me

How common is it? This is my 3rd pg and didnt have them with either of the girls.

What did you use to get rid of them? Did they go completely?

Sorry, am feeling all a bit fed up being 37weeks pg with grape-like things hanging!!!

Hi
I didnt get them until the end of my pregnancy and had never had them in my life! They come and go but only got one so not a majorish issue! My friend had a baby 14 months ago and last week she had a little op to remove hers.... It is something you could consider if after you've had your baby and they wont go away with creams etc...

Bodkin · 04/11/2007 19:58

Yes - I think they were brought on by the fact that I did a lot of standing for my work while in the second trimester. I'm self-employed, so I couldn't really pull the old "I'm preggers" card!

I just got some off-the-shelf cream - germoloids or Boots own or whatever, and used it religiously until the symptoms eased off. 4 months post-partum now, and things are nearly back to normal - although I imagine I will always be prone to them.

Oh, and sleeping on your left side is supposed to help as well - although at 37 weeks, I expect that sleeping comfortably at all is a bit tricky.

hi, i had them back in September (am currently 34wks)and i just got some off the self stuff call Anusol (!!) i think. It worked a treat.

I never had them with previous pregnacy so it was a bit of a shock and flipping painful too - i feel your pain

JARM · 04/11/2007 21:22

THANK YOU!

I dont feel so freakish now.

I got some Anusol, and Dh is being very good at applying for me (i cant reach!) but is it supposed to sting/itch like mad after applying?!

No, I don't think so - it is supposed to have a mild local anaesthetic {sp?} in it to relieve pain and itching, so if it doesn't get any better after a while - I would wash it off (not easy, I might add - it's stickier than metanium ) - you may be allergic to something in it?

That is one helluva DH you have there BTW

JARM · 04/11/2007 22:20

it only stings/itch for about 3-4 minutes if that, and i will say im having less discomfort since the applications.

Will ask DH to check area to see if reaction has occured - my DH is fab bless him, cant fault him in the slightest! He even shaves my legs and fanjo area when im pregnant - oh and cuts my toenails, puts on my socks and ties my laces!

I think I owe him a decent xmas present!

It sometimes stings because the skin is broken. That's normal btw.

onepieceoflollipop · 04/11/2007 22:23

It used to sting when I applied it too, but only for a few minutes. I think it may just be because the whole area gets a bit sore and tender - althought definitely check it is not a reaction.

Well I got them too (during the birth they just popped out, oh joy). Over-the-counter remedies usually work, also eat lots of soft fruit and drink lots of water. But if you're still suffering a month or so after your LO is born, get a GP or even your HV to advise you, cos sometimes surgery is needed.

Oh, and get a rubber ring to sit on, it really does help.
