COVID Vaccine - Third Trimester

Do we know if there have been any cases of women getting the vaccine in third trimester and already giving birth?

I’m CEV and almost 32 weeks pregnant. I’ve been invited for a vaccine and I don’t know what to do.

My daughter is in childcare and my husband has to go to work and travel with people who have kids in school.

Not sure what will make me more anxious. COVID vaccine in pregnancy or catching it in the next 8 weeks without a vaccine...

If you are CEV you should get the vaccine. If you need advice, talk to you midwife or Dr about it. I am in my 2nd trimester and have just had the first jab, and I will have the second one at the start of my 3rd. Coronavirus is more dangerous to pregnant women, especially those who are CEV like us. So the risk in my view (and my obstetrician's) was that having the vaccine was much less risky (not only for me but also for the baby) than not.

There is good data from the US about women having the vaccine at all stages and being monitored and nothing at all has been reported in terms of averse effects - some women have delivered and some have not - I think the figure was 10,000 women who have been monitored.

The vaccine materials are dead, not live, so there is not much risk to the baby, they just can't say definitively as its a new vaccine, but the dead/killed vaccines are not new. The materials from the vaccine will pass through your system in 24-48 hours.

Hope this helps x

@WolfMother326 that’s really helpful thank you. Pretty much what I was thinking. I’ve left a message for my team to call me and made a provisional appt for the vaccine tomorrow as didn’t want to lose an early slot by waiting.

Did you get Pfizer or Moderna? I've read they haven't trialled the AZ on pregnant women, not sure what to do if I was offered AZ
WolfMother326 · 24/02/2021 13:36

@Conundrum12345 I had the Pfizer vaccine. I discussed this with my consultant for my CEV issue, and my obstetrician, and they made it happen. I probably would have taken AZ, but I felt more confident about Pfizer because of studies done in the US and also its efficacy against variants seems a little higher. Still, any protection is good in my opinion!

Also, I should mention that the person who gave me the jab at the vaccination centre was a dr, and she was 12 weeks pregnant and had already had her first shot, which was comforting!

I think I am going to go for my appt today after talking to a couple of midwives x
