Ttc now or wait for the vaccine in July?

I had planned to ttc for baby number 2 at the start of this year but put it off due to covid and not knowing when it would end as I'd want my dp at appointments with me etc.

Now I'm wondering if I should wait until I've had my vaccine before ttc, however I am mid twenties with no health problems so will likely be amongst the last to get it.

If you're pregnant have you had the vaccine yet and what did your midwife say about whether it is safe etc?

All covid vaccins have been developed under a year, so despite short trials have been done, it's all new territory. Usual vaccines take about 10 longer to develop and test. A midwife won't be better informed then you on this topic. Plenty of women TTC had it, women who, at the time of vaccination didn't know were pregnant had it, pregnant women knowingly had it due to their job... Bottom line is women at different stage of their pregnancy journey had it, and most probably feel fine. But what doesn't sit well with me, is the unknown long term effects of these vaccines, regardless of pregnancy, and that alone is enough to put me off. Not having the vaccine carries risks, having it does as well, nothing is risk free. The balance lies in the amount of risk you're prepared to take.

@UnCoffreDor

Genuine question - who are these plenty of women that you know?

I don't think PP means they know people personally who have. Just in general.

My brother's job currently is giving the vaccine and he has given it to many pregnant women. Most of which work in the NHS or care homes

Even if you wait until you have the second one it would probably be pointless as only gives a few months of cover.
I'm accidentally pregnant 🤦🏼‍♀️😂, I'm a little gutted as would of been due my vaccine this month. As I'm pregnant I can't. Unless you ready to wait so you can have both jabs prob not worth waiting 🤦🏼‍♀️.

I’m TTC and getting my vaccine on Saturday. I was told that it was fine to keep TTC, and if I was pregnant before I got my vaccine, my doctor would discuss with me but they’d recommend being vaccinated anyway - Incase that helps at all!

Where are you getting that it only gives a few months of cover from? No one knows how long protection will last.

OP be careful of misinformation being spread in threads like these. Its really up to you to decide how important it is to you to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

I'm currently pregnant and should be getting my vaccine appointment any day now. I'm clinically vulnerable and work in the NHS, but my background is immunology and vaccines and I have read enough that I am happy to go ahead with vaccination.

Your question has no right or wrong answer. First dose at the end of July would mean second dose by the end of October. Would you want to wait that long? In your 20s you have time to wait if you choose. DH and I were TTC for two years and decided it wasn't worth holding off any longer for us so kept going.

Had my first dose 17th December. Started ttc in early January and caught straight away (very lucky) my second dose got pushed back with the 12 week announcement so I was due to have it this weekend gone, I cancelled it. Unlike the flu vaccine that's been around for years, these are both new vaccines that no one knows the long term effects of. Having already had the first dose I feel safe enough to continue my pregnancy and get my second dose after October.
Each to their own though, make a choice based on your own circumstances.

You're extremely low on the priority list for invitation. You don't know how long it may take to conceive, if there are problems, will you kick yourself for waiting?
