Hi all

I’m very early into my pregnancy (5 weeks) and am a teacher, with all this news of schools reopening in 2 weeks I was wondering if you think I should tell my head of department in school that I’m preg because of Covid and risk assessments etc. Feel a bit lost! Xxx

From my experience, even if you tell them, they still won't risk assess until second trimester

I'm a teacher and told me boss early (about 8 weeks). It didnt really change anything but I was suffering from extreme tiredness/nausea so it felt like I was covering my back to say something! I have a good relationship with my head so I guess that helps! Good luck!

I ended up telling my school and head of department earlier than I would have because of covid, as It just made things a bit easier. However like others have said it didn’t change my risk assessment as there are no known risks during the first trimester of covid xx

Hi OP,
I'm a teacher and told my head today despite being only 6 weeks. She's sorting me a risk assessment and have given me different masks to wear when around the children. I'm in Wales and children are back today so I felt I should tell her x

I was pregnant during the first lockdown and told my head early. Was sent to wfm the first day we were meant to, even at 13 weeks.

I'd also been pregnant in 2019 and had told my head. It ended in a mmc and was nice to have the support as I was signed off for 5 weeks.

I'm the same, just over 5 weeks and a teacher. I told my HoD as I wasn't feeling well and thought I might need cover (we are very good friends though and share an office!). She was great and said she would sort it that I didnt have to come in until we go back properly. I think I'll tell my head the first day we go back in properly, by which time I will have had an early scan. All the best!

Hi,
I told my head at 4/5 weeks before we came back in January. There is a risk assessment in place but I haven't seen it a schools closed to the majority when it was completed. I've found it helpful her knowing due to appointments.

Thanks everyone, I think I’ll tell my HOD and my head!

Hey, I'm a teacher too and I've let my head know and my HoD. Covid is a real pain. I hate that I had to tell them so early on (6weeks) when I'm still petrified of MC😢

Melody27 · 24/02/2021 09:40

Hi @Ashkayyyy I feel the same! I think at least if the worst was to happen they would know and be able to support you!! X
