Hey there,

I just got my bloods back today and I am at 7w5d and the levels are at 250,000! I have had a scan and its just one bub in there.

I am worried it could possibly be an indicator of down syndrome? or are these hcg levels different somehow to the ones they test for in the 12 week scan/ bloods?

Any advice appreciated (ps spewing constantly, the struggle is real )

HCG levels vary hugely per person so it could just be that you just have naturally high levels for no reason at all.

There are cases when it isn't a good sign though. Last year I was pregnant and my HCG levels were very high early on and I had extremely bad nausea and vomiting. I was convinced it must be twins or Down syndrome. In the end it turned out to be a partial molar pregnancy which causes your HCG to rise very rapidly and can cause hyperemesis gravidaram. Unfortunately this was during the first lockdown so I wasn't able to have any scans during the pregnancy and only found out much later on after I'd had a MMC.

If your hospital have already found your levels to be so high, have they recommended you to come in for further tests or scans? I think a molar can generally be identified on a scan from around 8-9 weeks so maybe try and get another scan then. It might also be worth you having an NIPT test to help rule anything else out early on.

My hcg at 5 and half weeks was 20000 they didn't do anymore bloods after that but if u got by the doubling every 48 hours rule mine would have been 320000 at just over 7 weeks. Baby is here 10 months now and perfect super smart with a bad temper to boot

The number is pretty irrelevant. It's within the normal range and that's the main thing.
The important thing is in the beginning weeks when it's doubling ect.

Some people have higher readings, some don't. It's all different per person.

@kensue19 thanks so much for your reply. Maybe I am just some one with high levels. There was a heartbeat of 140 so no molar thankfully.... or is that not how it works?

it must have been horrible what you went through. How stressful :(

@nicciw87 glad to hear thank thats for the reassurance!

@SnooperTrooper12345 thanks for your reply! although I think 250 thou is slightly out of the range for not even 8 weeks but not by too much
