Long story short, to start with i was hopeful, turned out my midwife is a midwife student. That won't be a problem but couple of things happened / or not what meant to be, so im not really confident with her now. I cant really understand why a student could get a first time mum, if i would have already 1 or 2 children i might would be more calm, but this has to end. What is my options? I know in a normal situation i should go and speak with my gp, but because of the covid i didn't saw my gp about the pregnancy to start with, i just had to register to the maternity notes and they contacted me..

It is possible to change your midwife. I wish I'd known that when I had my child as I didn't get on with my midwife at all. She was very dismissive and unhelpful.

Your midwife will be linked to a hospital trust, so you can call the community midwifery office in the hospital to request a change of named midwife.

Surely as a student there should always be a qualified midwife too? I never had a student midwife on their own.

Also - I rarely saw the same midwife twice anyway!

Agree with pp, a student shouldn't be left alone to deal with a pregnant woman for the whole appt,or even part of it. Call your local midwifery unit.

When I had my one and only, the kindest and most competent midwives on labour ward and post natal were student midwives. The qualified ones were dismissive, rude and ever so busy. I was so grateful for the big hug the student midwife gave me when DD wouldn't feed.
Pre natal, they will have supervision.
I'd wait and see, OP.

She will be working on under supervision.....it’s irrelevant that you are a first time mum......she will need allround experience ......if it’s that’s much of a big deal then tell them

I saw a different community midwife each time, I actually found the student one the most useful and thorough, student ones usually have a fully qualified one in the room!
