Asking for a csection

Hello so on Tuesday I have a scan to see if my placenta is still low I will he nearly 37 weeks and then on 1st I have a consultant appointment to discuss the scan .. If it is still low then its a csection... But I'm told alot of placentas will move.. I had a really traumatic first birth with my son 6 years ago resulting in a episiotomy and alot of bleeding and would much prefer a csection anyway.. What do you think my chances are that the consultant will give me a csection?
My mw seems to just brush my anxiety off everytime I mention being scared of a natural birth.
Has anyone asked this late on in pregnancy?

If you're on the NHS, you have to be accepted. If they personally won't say yes, they have to find you someone else that will do it.

I will say though, you are at higher risk of bleeding with a c section.

I had a 3rd degree tear with my last and have been having panic attacks about it happening again and they're still not keen on a csection

If your placenta is too low they kind of have no choice but to do a c section. I’m the same as the above PP, had a very painful birth & horrible tearing I’m so worried about childbirth again. Good luck Op, if they say no try to demand a C section

You have to state your case to a consultant and it is up to them to decide if they are willing to offer it. The sooner you ask the better.

Cesarean is not easy going. I had heavy blood loss after mine with our twins, iron was low but just high enough for them to discharge me the next day though. Wound got infected which wasn't great either. I've had 3 natural births too, 2 with episiotomy and 1 bad tear. I had heavy blood loss after our 2nd as he was huge and so was his placenta (I look shocking on pics after him, white as a sheet).

I haven’t given birth before but have always been terrified of a vaginal birth. It’s all the uncertainty around it I think and I have heard quite a few traumatic stories. I by no means think a c section is ‘easy’ and know that the recovery takes longer, but for me it’s the best option. If you want one they have to give you one as per nhs guidelines.

I think generally they push for vaginal births over c section because it’s cheaper and shorter time in hospital. The risks between the two are very similar levels now, I think c section is only very marginally higher risk.

Just know that you are entitled to one, stand your ground xx

@Chelyanne you don’t have to state your case anymore - they changed it. Anyone is allowed a c section now if they want one.

I was more scared of the cesarean than a vaginal birth but breech twins meant it was the safest thing to do for my babies.

Hello do the consultant on the phone has said I can have a csection if I wish.. I have a consultant appointment on 10th to talk to and say for certain.. Its 8 days before my due date so will they book the section after that? Before my due date?

When did this change? Is there anywhere I can find more information. I was getting ready to go in all guns blazing to demand a section at my 8 week appointment. I knew I wanted a section since before TTC.

Well Ive had a low placenta my whole pregnancy and it has only just moved.. I explained that after my scary first birth (my son had to be pulled out really quickly as his heart stopped and I had to have a very big episiotomy cut) that I have looked into csection (thinking that was what I would need anyway) and am aware it's not ideal but think it's my safest option.. The basically said its my birth and my choice so the lady booked me in for one this Friday... I do have a history of bad anxiety since I had my son so I don't know if it's that that has made them understand... Anyway I would say to your mw you are wanting a csection and reasons why x

Thanks @sundance123 that's reassuring. I'm glad you got your c-section booked, all the best with it.

Yeah they don't seem as excited about pushing vaginal birth as they used to. With my first there was no question of me having a section, I think I broached it once and was brushed off and that was that. Ended up with one anyway but that was the consultants choice.

This time round I went in for my 14 week consultant appointment and she was like do you want another section then, yeah? I hadn't even thought about it, I was really taken aback that they would even consider it without me asking! (Still haven't decided what to do!)
