Hey!

Looking for some advice so I was told at my 20&22 week scan I have a low lying placenta but there were chances of it moving and not to worry, I’ve recently been admitted to hospital for bleeding and kept in for observations baby seems fine but they scanned me again I’m now 28 weeks and it still hasn’t started to move has anyone had this before and it’s moved or is it not likely to at this stage? I am booked in for a further scan in 4 weeks and been given steroid injections incase little one decides to make an appearance early & been told I’m now being consultant lead, just finding this all over whelming as I had to be in on my own and was told loads of information and found it all hard to take in! First time baby too so finding it all a little stressful at the moment!

Thanks in advance for any advice! X

With my twins one was covering the cervix at 20wk, I was scanned every 4 weeks (the norm with twins). Mine moved slowly but was clear of the cervix by 32wk, she then turned breech and I ended up with a cesarean anyway.
They will give it until around 37/38wk to move to at least 2cm, if it's still not clear they will book you in for cesarean.
I was terrified of cesarean as my mum told me how horrid hers was with me but it was much better than I expected. I lost a lot of blood (2 large placentas so not unexpected) but I was up walking within 12 hours and felt fine the next day, was discharged in under 36hrs from getting to hospital.

Hi OP, how far away from the os was your placenta at 20 weeks, did they tell you? Mine was 13mm and by 36 weeks was 41mm away. The bottom half of the uterus doesn't usually start growing/stretching until week 30 of pregnancy, so it's normal that it hasn't moved (which is not actually it moving, just the uterine walls stretching around it!) by 28 weeks. They should have booked you for a growth scan sometime between 32-37weeks to check this.

Also, a low-lying placenta means bleeding is unfortunately more common. I bled from 20-24 weeks on and off, and not at all afterward! Hope all goes ok for you.

Try not to worry.
I had this, and the midwife said in most cases it moves. Mine had moved by my 36 week scan.

Hey OP try not to worry. I had a low lying placenta at 20 week scan and like you was admitted to hospital at 27 weeks for bleeding, had steroid injections, etc and told to prepare for baby arriving early. They scanned me again at 32 weeks and placenta hadn't moved, was completely covering os, so I was booked in for a csection at 38 weeks. I didn't quite make it to that as had another bleed at 35 weeks so had a section then. Baby was fine - she's almost 8 now. ☺
