hi everyone!

well i am 42 weeks on tuesday (sigh) and due to be induced on wednesday evening with the gel.

was wondering if anyone has this, whats it like? what was your experience of it etc..

heard that it can make contractions very painful and feels like chilli powder, makes you very sore, is this true?

sorry to ask for so much info but i am understandably nervous as its my first baby.

thanks.
xxxx

i had the prostin gels dont expect everything to kick off right away because it can take a few pesseries to kick things off...if they dilate you but you dont contract they will put a syntocin drip in your hand to bring the contractions on.IME it didnt burn so dont worry x good luck x

if you are allergic to the prostin gel ( rare) it can sting and irritate

yes, an induced labour can be more painful and you can get 'prostin pains' that are painful but aren;t actual labour...

try to keep active, moving , and walking around as much as you can to get things moving

thank you! my midwife said they will try four times at 6-8 hour intervals. if no success i will have a c-section. she didn't mention a drip, sometimes i wish they informed you better.
i often find out more chatting on here or by my own research.

thanks again. xx

before you are whipped off for a c,section, you can have your waters broken, usually once you are a little bit dilated, you will be moved from ante natal to labour ward, and your waters will be broken .. that also helps inuduce contractions

if contractions do not start or are irregular or not that strong, you will be given a drip of a synthetic hormone to bring on contractions or strengthen them

you should have been given a leaflet to explai this all, and it should be explained at every stage

you do not have to consent to it, you can go beyond 42 weeks, and ask for regular scans ( expectant management )

if your bishops score is low, you will , on the whole, need more prostin etc to get going.

I had the gel x 2 and tbh, it did very little, labour started slowly and when they broke my water after a couple of hours things progressed nicely, it didn't hurt and was not uncomfortable, it didn't really start much unlike a 'normal' labour! Try not to worry, baby will be here soon, whichever way! Have you tried your own prostaglandin (semen)!!!!

thank you lulmamaintheskywithfireworks!

i have not been given a leaflet, i shall look into it in my pregnancy book. i think i will go search the web aswell and download one as i feel very uneducated and uninformed on the whole thing.

thanks again. xx

no worries

in the meantime, lot of sex /orgasm, nipple stim , strong visualisation of the birth, relaxation and letting go of as many worries as you can

hi 3Ddonut. lol, yes tried that, and i keep on about trying again but my other half feels it is strange as baby is so close to coming! thanks for telling your experience though..reassuring! xxx
