Hi I really need some help as I’m tearing my hair out. I’m
Pregnant in first trimester and been in agonising pain usually 3-4 days a week the rest of the time it’s like periods pain never goes away but when severe I can’t even stand up straight or walk. They have done loads of tests and say they think it’s being caused by adhesions. I’ve had loads of surgeries and my bowel is in the wrong place. They prescribed oramorph and the dose they have given doesn’t even touch the pain. Even on a good day I’m on full dose of paracetamol. I’m not sure if it’s safe to continue the pregnancy if I need oramorph daily and maybe at a higher dose. I’ve seen people say they used it but more for like a one off pain not regularly. The leaflet they gave is clear as mud as the only studies have been done are on addicts not for chronic pain. Has anyone taken it regularly ? How safe is it to carry on? Feel like I’m stuck between terminating a wanted pregnancy. Staying in agony or taking something that is poisoning the baby. I’m beside myself. Can anyone help? X

You say your bowel is the the wrong place, have you got IM? If so there are groups on fb with ladies who have had pregnancies ad may be able to advise further

No not Im the adhesions have moved it so it’s stuck to abdominal wall and have adhesions all over pelvic area too round womb. And Fallopian tube etc x

Oh that’s really difficult, i had 5 pregnancies fairly problem free with IM but was unaware i had it, i then had multiple surgeries and have also been left with adhesions which sometimes pull and i can feel them although they don’t cause a huge amount of pain. I’m not sure how it would pan out if i were to go through another pregnancy.

Have you spoke to your hospital, is there anything they can do, can they try and release some of the adhesions before the pregnancy progresses too much further?

Thanks hun they said only thing they can do is pain relief but the low dose or oramorph doesn’t do anything so think would need a higher dose and I’m really worried what affect that would have on baby if I’m on it so regularly. They give you a leaflet to read but it’s just so vague that not enough research been done on women with pain taking so they don’t seem to know what affect it would have on baby’s development and learning. I just don’t know how ethical it is to carry on on such strong pain relief. I think if I needed it like once a month or something infrequent it’s prob ok but I’m needing it most days xxx
