Ickle bubba travel system

Hi
I’m finding it so hard not being able to go to shops and seeing prams for myself. I’m due June so have some time on my side. I was looking at the ickle bubba stomp v3 and I was wondering if u need the isofix base if you have iso fix points in the car. I’ve seen this come with a few travel systems and was just wondering really. I also like some of the travel systems at the other side of the scale like icandy and silver cross but I ideally want to see them in person before purchasing.

Yes the isofix points in the car are to fox the isofix base to which is to fix the car seat to! Not necessarily safer than using the seat belt but quite a bit easier and quicker!

GreenLeafTurnip · 19/02/2021 21:47

And sorry I'm not in the UK so can't really recommend a travel system although we use Cybex if it is available and I like it. We had a baby seat and now we've got the one that goes up to 4 years and can be rear facing until then as well. Unfortunately the exact model escapes me!

Pipperleen · 19/02/2021 21:58

I’ve got the Stomp V3 system, I really like it. Got it through Emma’s Diary for a decent discount.
As PP has said, the base fixes to the isofix in the car and then the car seat attaches to that. Dead easy to get in and out to attach to the wheels for nipping to the shops or doctors, etc. Pram has taken a battering as we are out everyday, rain or shine, at the moment and it’s held up really well!

Celeste86 · 19/02/2021 22:02

I am in the same boat also due in June so I am hoping places have opened up again but it's limited now Mothercare is gone and BabiesRUs were the main places to test prams near us. It's alot of money to spend without seeing how it pushes and what the height is like and of you like it in person!

You don't have to have isofix even if your car has it, it's optional. Most car seats which go on the Pram frame doesn't have the isofix itself it's rather isofix compatible meaning it's built into the base so you then put the carseat onto the base. It's quick and easy to do and it directly attached to the car chassis rather than via the belt, it's less likely for your carseat to be fitted incorrectly using isofix. There are some you can buy don't need a separate base as it's built into the carseat like the Joie 360 spin but that stays in your car and therefore cannot be attached to a pushchair.

Babyontheway21 · 19/02/2021 22:32

Thanks I just assumed seats had the iso fix built in... just shows I do know absolutely nothing Grin how do you find the hood on the stomp v3 someone said it’s just a bit of stretched fabric which put me off but I keep coming back to it as it’s good value for money.

I'm due in June too :) and have just ordered the v3. So far it looks and feels great after putting it together. 3 of my friends also have it and recommended it.

We managed to get a really good package on online4baby for a really good price. It included the pram / isofix / car seat / travel cot / bouncer & highchair.

Babyontheway21 · 19/02/2021 23:01

I noticed there is two types of package one with a galaxy car seat and the other is a Mercury car seat Confused

I like the one that’s all black which seems to be on ickle bubba website only

Does the wheels turn ok there was a bad review that said the didn’t turn easily around a corner you need to move the whole pram

I'm picking mine up tomorrow. Yes as pp have said you attach the base then click the car seat in and out. I kept looking at more expensive ones too and had budgeted for that but someone said to me, a pram is a pram and they do what they do. You wouldn't go out and buy the most expensive car to get you from a to b 🤷 made sense to me! I was worried about the hood too but I really like the look of it compared to others. There's the rain cover for of it's raining or very windy!

User65412 · 19/02/2021 23:05

Also - I also used an independent baby shop to buy it. They ordered it in the black I wanted and kept hold of it until I wanted to pick it up. Its a great time to support a small business if you can rather than go direct (they do the same deals as the manufacturers). I was able to book an appointment to go and have a look and compare as well.

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 19/02/2021 23:06

My advice is to go for a used travel system. Everyone I know who got the expensive, or even not so expensive in this case, travel system switched to an easy foldaway type buggy by about 6 months. I had a travel system and there were always bits of it on the floor or blocking the door. It was a massive (literally, it was massive) PITA. I bought the baby jogger city mini when DS was 6 months and used it for the next 3 years. Highly recommend it!

Babyontheway21 · 19/02/2021 23:07

It would be good to hear your opinion on the hood Smile. It looks very similar to the icandy and for a £400-500 difference I don’t know if I can justify it.

Babyontheway21 · 19/02/2021 23:10

@User65412 our local baby shops are doing demonstrations through a window which doesn’t help me as I want to be able to have a push and try folding it.Confused

@FoofOfTheWalkingDeadOh so when it turns into the push chair part it’s not that great ?

I’m guessing since the Mercury one increases the price this is seen as the better one?

OP posts:
User65412 · 19/02/2021 23:27

The Mercury and galaxy are to do with safety standards of the car seat. One is standard isofix and the other (more expensive) is isize which is a newer standard. Lots online about that if you're interested!
It's a shame you can't try them at your local shop! We did have to travel 45 mins to a shop we could try them (we are very rural though so still local to us 😂) but it was worth it for to see them in person and for the expertise of the owner who was able to explain all the jargon to us 🙈

Babyontheway21 · 19/02/2021 23:29

That’s what I really want is to go in and speak to someone that knows so that I can make a decision because just now I’m just looking at pictures and prices and saying to myself that’s nice.

I've got the v3 and I do really love it, the only thing is the hood isn't brilliant but it does ok for a wind/sun shield!

Babyontheway21 · 20/02/2021 09:22

That seems to be everyone’s opinion on the hood. I think I will wait until the shops open again and go to smyths as they have them in store.

My friend is due this spring and she did a virtual
Shopping event with mamas and papas where they did demonstrations of the equipment and travel systems - she said it was really helpful - might be worth booking an appointment with them?

mamaatthegym · 20/02/2021 09:41

I have the Stomp V3 (black frame, grey fabric) with the Mercury (older style) car seat and absolutely faultless! DD is 15 months and I’m still using it however will be moving to a stroller for her from spring and packing the travel system away. Compared to my friends’ prams, it was quite big and heavy. You need a fairly large boot in the car as the frame is huge! Never had a problem with the wheels and didn’t even think twice about the hood being fabric, I like it! X

Babyontheway21 · 20/02/2021 09:56

I have seen mamas and papas a are doing that, might be worth it just to get some more knowledge at least.

Ah is the frame quite big, I have a big boot anyway but I thought it looked so compact and light on the videos this is why I guess you need to have a look at them.

AliasGrape · 20/02/2021 10:13

We have the v4 and we've loved it so far. I don't really understand what the issue with the hood could be - what else is it going to be other than fabric? It's been fine for us anyway.

We got it from online4baby and got a deal that included the travel system and base etc along with a load of other stuff such as travel cot, high chair, bouncy chair thing etc. The bouncy chair in particular was a godsend despite me thinking I wasn't going to use one.

Butterybiscuitbase12 · 20/02/2021 10:15

Just adding my two pence, also have the V3. I purchased in July last year after looking online, so hadn’t tried it out in person. LO was born in September. So don’t have anything to compare to but find it easy to use, especially liked the big back wheels and the fact they are made of rubber so no annoying plastic rattling noise while pushing. I suppose it is fairly heavy but I manage to lift it in and out of the boot of the 4x4 no problem. You do need both hands free to collapse and unfold it though. The hood is a thin fabric but I’ve never found it to be a problem and have been out everyday (mostly) in all weathers from sept til now, LO has always seemed cosy and snuggly in it, plus the rain cover does it’s job. Found the car seat to be easy to use though quite heavy lifting in and out of the car, not unmanageable though and I have delusions that it’s toning up my arms Grin
I haven’t regretted buying and have enjoyed pushing it, plan to keep and use for baby two.
Congrats on your pregnancy and best of luck pushchair hunting.

Babyontheway21 · 20/02/2021 10:28

Thank you, it’s good to hear from people that actually have it and can give an opinion. With the isize car seat it’s £649 and there aren’t much travel systems for that price out there and it does look good and from what I hear reliable Smile

Super helpful thread, thanks OP.

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 20/02/2021 11:17

Hi again OP, once you're out of the pram stage you might find you just want an easy folding lightweight buggy. Having a crawling/walking little one means that easy folding (especially one handed) will be important. I'm not against travel systems but I think they are cleverly marketed as a 'must have' which is not always the case. Think about your home and where you'll store it. Will you need to fold it up and find a place for the pushchair seat? Do you have stairs to your house? A big pushchair might be awkward. Do you use the bus? Having a quick folding buggy helps when there is a wheelchair. DS is 10 now and of my 8 nct group only one of them held on to their travel a couple system beyond child 1. They had a big conservatory where they stored it.
