Early scan

Some basic questions:
How much do people pay for private early scans?
And how do you book one?
I’m 7 weeks and I had some brown discharge which has stopped and not had it for a few days and also haven’t yet had full on nausea yet. So I’m a little bit anxious waiting for the 12 week scan.

Hey! I had a scan at 9wks. Found it really reassuring. Mine was £75, which I think is at the higher end of what they cost (I've seen some people getting them for £55-60). There aren't many clinics near me to chose from though. I just googled 'private antenatal scan + my town name'.

Brown spotting is quite common and usually means old blood. If you speak to your GP they will likely send you to the EPU for an early scan anyway.

I bled through both my pregnancies and had NHS scans at 6 and 9 weeks because of it.

If you do go for a private scan try to wait until 8 weeks. The heartbeat is likely there then. Plus if you go too early you can cause yourself more worry because your dates and the scan don't match.

Brown spotting is extremely common and actually listed as a 6 week symptom.

Also, symptoms don't mean anything. I've never had any symptoms apart from sore boobs which came and went week to week.

Window to the womb and ultrasound direct are ones we've used. They're around £70 for a viability scan. You can book online.
All wellbeing scans are still able to run in lockdown.

Do bear in mind that early scans are no guarantee and don't always give too much reassurance. I had one in July at 8+3 which confirmed a heartbeat, I lost that baby at 9+3. Miscarriage risk does lower after seeing a heartbeat but there is still a risk. I waited for my dating scan this time, it was an excruciating wait but I'm glad I did. Baby was very active on the scan unlike my private early scan where the only movement was the flickering of the heartbeat.

I’ve had 4 early scans so far 🙈

Very anxious following 4 miscarriages.

My first scan was at 5+4 but that was at EPU. We saw a heartbeat which was reassuring.

I then had a private scan at 6+2, another at 7 weeks, and the latest at 8+4 (measured 8+5). One with ultrasound direct that cost £70, and 2 with window to the womb that cost £59 each.

My latest one was amazing, the baby had grown loads and was so active, wriggling and waving. I have children already but this will be my partners first so it was amazing for him.

I have another scan booked for 9+6 at window to the womb, and then will wait until my 12 week scan.

We’re also going to be opting to have a private NIPT test so will get a further scan at that point too.

For me personally each scan has been worth it for the reassurance.
