Is anyone self-isolating ahead of due date?

Hi all

I'm currently 30 weeks and 5 days, and trying to decide whether I/my family should be isolating ahead of the due date.

I'm not just concerned about me catching covid, but aware if DH gets it I'll be giving birth alone. We have a 3-year-old DS (4 in May) who goes to nursery and therefore is the biggest risk factor. So we've been wondering if we should take him out of nursery in the run up. But given we don't know when it'll happen, he could be out of nursery for 5/6 weeks. We're already struggling with behavioural issues and he'll be starting school later this year, so I think cutting all contact with other children for that long, just before a new baby arrives, wouldn't be great for him.

I asked my midwife today and she didn't advise self-isolating, but I wondered what others are thinking of doing?

Thanks Smile

@sunnyfields25 hey

My same concern is DH! We are already being careful - well lockdown anyway - but still going to the shops if we need etc.

From two weeks (36+4 now) before EDD we are going to take a test, be even more careful and pretty much isolate. Difficult when I have to go to the hospital anyway but I think it's just to make us feel better. The actual risk is very low probably.

This is my first but a friend kept her son in nursery no issues And just gave birth.

I’m not. I haven’t changed anything the whole pandemic and I won’t start now. I’m 37+5 and if I have to have a COVID test or partner isn’t allowed in I’ll just stay at home.

I've had the exact discussion with DP today, I think our plan is to self isolate 10 days before due date. I'm 35 weeks today and we've been as careful as we can but I don't want to take any risks and it's our first baby and I want him there with me!

I have this concern but my DP works outside of the home and is self employed so we don't have the luxury of being able to consider self isolating. I will be extra careful but that's all I can do. We can't afford for DP to self isolate and not get paid before the birth when we would both want him off for some paternity leave (again unpaid).

It's so tricky isn't it, I'm glad I'm not the only one having this dilemma. If it was just me and DH it would be easier to self-isolate because we're lucky in that we're both WFH at the moment and don't really go anywhere other than for walks or DH occasionally popping to a supermarket. But with DS still going to nursery it wouldn't be an option.

I was induced at 37 weeks last time and the same could happen again this time, depending on how growth scans pan out. But then again I might be left to go into labour on my own and then it might not happen until 40+ weeks. It's such an unknown!

Also thought about it.
34 weeks tomorrow...
It think from 37/38 we will not meet anyone anymore.
Just our trips to the shops for groceries and my hospital appt.
Not in UK but similar rules, so if DH hasnt got a negative test of max 48 hours to present when i am admitted he won't be allowed in and i will give birth alone.

I'm exactly the same due date as you by the sounds of it! We caught covid a few weeks ago from my daughter who had an outbreak at nursery so I'm not too concerned about catching it again although I know there is a very slim chance. I have heard that you can't test positive for many weeks after so I am worried about that. I've got a back up list just in case of people who can come and meet me for labour at the hospital as I really don't want to give birth alone. Ironically I was my friends back up partner but I had covid! Thankfully I wasn't needed.

That should say - That you CAN test positive for weeks after
