Ive had it twice but 18 and 14 years ago. Is that OK? Or too long ago?

Done I’ve had it twice. Only became aware of it when I was in third trimester & my friend had a third trimester loss. She told me she had nothing wrong but she was very itchy. I said I was and asked my consultant (I had GD too). I got tested immediately and then wasn’t allowed home had to have baby at 37 weeks emergency section. Wasn’t given steroids baby ended up being ventilated - all 9 years ago now but a horrific time

midwife2be43 · 19/02/2021 08:00

Aww bless you, its such a tricky condition isn't it. I wasn't even aware of it until I had it. I had it with my third child, usual itchiness and being monitored and I was in my third trimester. I was just curious of if/how much people knew about the condition. Thank you so much, these responses will definitely help with my assignment 😊

Completed - all the best with your research and studies Smile

BlueberryPancake21 · 19/02/2021 14:32

Done. I was a little concerned after being tested for this that my midwife didn't know a lot about it and referred me to my GP who also didn't know! Also it seems unclear whether the test should be for liver function or bile acid - I was left unsure whether I had a problem or not!

midwife2be43 · 19/02/2021 17:31

Oh really, when I had it, they said they were testing the amount of bile acids in the blood, my midwife was really hot on it & got me to hospital straight away and monitored baby's heart. GP wasn't even involved. That's really interesting that your midwife didn't know! Hope everything worked out ok! Thank you for your help, much appreciated

I've completed the survey. My little boy was stillborn in January last year and that was put down to cholestasis. ICP Support charity have been invaluable in providing the latest research and information about it. I think it can be very hit and miss with the knowledge of medical professionals on the subject, having said that my hospital have been amazing and even had the latest research been followed we would still have lost Isaak.

midwife2be43 · 19/02/2021 18:54

I'm so sorry for your loss of Isaak, must have been heartbreaking for you. I hope you got the support needed. I think you're absolutely right about the knowledge being hit and miss, its said it affects under 1% of pregnant women in the UK but I believe it to more common than people think. Hopefully having these conversations on here brings a little awareness of it. Thank you for completing the survey, appreciate it

Thank you, we did have have support, the midwives were amazing and we'll be forever grateful to them for the care they provided. They went above and beyond, several of them came to Isaak's service and I don't think they'll ever know how much that meant to us. Best of luck in your studies ☺️

midwife2be43 · 19/02/2021 21:31

That's amazing to hear that the midwives were there for you. Thank you for sharing such a personal moment of your life. I am truly privileged to learn of Isaak. Thank you again x😊
