When to ask about elective c section?

I posted a few weeks ago about advice & experiences of elective c sections, I'm really sure that's what I want. I'm 21 weeks pregnant now, I mentioned to my midwife at my booking phone appointment that my last birth was very traumatic, she just said I can maybe have a debriefing about my experience and if I have a vaginal birth it will be easier and faster than last time. I'm under consultant led care but no one has mentioned birth/plan yet. Anyone who has had one or planning to, when did you ask about it? Thank you x

Ask about it next time you see your consultant. They tend to do electives with singletons as close to 39wk as possible so you've plenty of time.
Our twins were delivered by elective cesarean and it was only booked in 9 days before surgery.

When is your next consultant appointment? I asked in my first one at 12 weeks even though it wasn’t brought up and he booked me in for a review at 36 weeks. If you have a consultant appointment soon I’d bring it up but if not call the midwife and ask for a referral appointment

I asked the same at my booking apt and got a consultant debrief around 20 weeks where they agreed to an ELCS. Then I had a follow up at 28 weeks to confirm and I've another apt at 34 weeks to fix the date. Worth phoning the midwife and asking for that debrief and keep saying that you'd like an ELCS.

I asked my midwife at 16 weeks. She made an appointment with the consultant a few days after my 20 week scan and I had it booked in there and then for 39+1.

I asked the consultant at the 20 week appointment, she agreed and gave me the date there and then.

I requested one at my 16 week midwife appointment, she referred me to the consultant and I spoke with them at 20 weeks after my anomaly scan.
It was agreed at the time of the appointment and I'm booked in for the ELCS at 39+1

I requested one on my booking in appointment and I then had an appointment with the consultant at 12 weeks. She advised it was my choice and I’m booked in with her again when I’m 36 weeks to confirm a date for the section x

I requested mine at my booking in appointment. I was adamant that I was having one (I’d checked I would be allowed after dc1). I was quite clear about it and just said I would be having a cs this time. The midwife scanned my notes and just said that would be fine. From then on that was it. I had a meeting with the consultant nearer my due date to book in my date and they were absolutely fine with it too. The only person who ever questioned my decision was one young doctor who I imagine was following procedure. But as soon as I told her I was aware of the risks and was sure of my choice she was fine with it.

I'm in a very similar position to you OP but 28 weeks. I've just been told today that whether I'm still consultant led or midwife led I'll be given an appointment at 36 weeks to discuss birthing options (all women get that here apparently). I will also be requesting an elective c sec if she hasn't come naturally by due date (I had a debrief pretty soon after my first birth which was helpful, and if they could guarantee me a natural mlu birth I'd "happily"! do that, but at this point in time I'm not happy to do an obstetric unit induction again which is what it's looking like my only other option is aside from c sec). Maybe ask at your next midwife or cons appointment whether you'll also get the birth option discussion at 36 weeks?

Screwcorona · 18/02/2021 20:19

I had mine booked in when I spoke to consultant at 20 weeks. I made it very clear at booking appointment with midwife that I'm 100% sure it's what I want and that I wouldnt have gone ahead with having a second baby if I'd not had that option.

Had a horribly traumatic birth last time and discussed with reflections at my hospital a few times about future births so I guess that lead them to organise this early on.

Though I'm always polite and kind to all nhs workers I think they can tell im very anxious and not going to be pushed into anything this time around

Definitly discuss at next appointment. They can book you in then you can feel more certain
