Movement

Hi all,

So I’m nearly 30 weeks, midwife has drummed into me that any change in movement warrants a call to them.

However baby has her own routine in that she doesn’t have one, she moves when she wants and sleeps when she wants.

For instance yesterday she was really active and moved about all day but today she’s really quiet and I’ve only felt her a few times.

But today I’m panicking as I think maybe I’m being too lackadaisical about it.

What should I be looking out for? Like if she doesn’t move at all, or if her movement becomes manic? What if I can’t tell the difference? My heads all over the place the now.

Any help would be appreciated as I don’t want to keep calling the midwife every time she has a bit of a quiet day.

If movement has slowed, you should call.

They're there for you to call. They want you to call every time they have a 'quiet' day. Its important

Set aside an hour every day. Lie down and see how long it takes to get to 10 kicks. If it takes longer than an hour have a sugary drink oj? and try again. If you still don't get to 10 phone midwife.
Google count the kicks.

I have the exact same thing. I'm nearly 29 weeks. No pattern. Some days lots of movement, other days barely any. The 10 movements in an hour is outdated. Every time I've called maternity assessment they've not seemed worried and said if baby regularly has active days then quiet days, then that is her pattern. Is your baby usually active every day?

Chelyanne · 18/02/2021 16:39

Ours were all very active with no particular pattern and if I was busy I'd often not notice movements that much.
If I was ever worried I would have a cold drink, if they reacted to it then they were fine and most likely just sleeping. Their movements would soon pick up again as I was relaxing and paying attention to bump.

If she's quieter today than yesterday, you need to call the MW.

10 movements in an hour is an outdated thing and doesn't mean anything.

If my baby did 10 kicks in 1 hour it would be massively reduced movement.

Thanks ladies, I had a can Fanta and lay down and after about 10 minutes she went daft. Reassuring which is what I’m after ☺️

I've found the kicks count to be useful, as pp said the 10 kicks in an hour is outdated but I try to count when she is active and the app tells me when I look back what time of day that is, and how long it takes to get to 10 etc. It can help I think in letting yiu know what sort of times the baby is active.

Also it helped me realise that days I work are sometimes different to days I don't work, which stressed me massively but once I realised that the routine changed and that that was the routine it helped with sort of figuring out what was what as I just didn't seem to be able to work out the routine as its not like clockwork as my first baby's had been..

But always go in if you are concerned, no matter how many times.

DuggeeHugPlease · 18/02/2021 18:42

Exactly the same, no rhyme or reason to it so I find it hard to keep track and it's only sometimes when I sit down and feel a kick and it reminds me I haven't felt one for quite a while.
But yes if you're at all worried better to go and be checked over.

spookycookies · 18/02/2021 20:32

I didn't say 10 kicks in an hour. You pick the same time every day. Time 10 kicks. Might be 7, 20, 40 minutes for your baby. Same time next day instead of 7minutes it's 50 that's reduced movement for your baby.

MooreLew · 18/02/2021 20:54

@spookycookies you said if you don't get 10 kicks in an hour drink orange juice, if you still don't get some call midwife. I'm lucky if I get 10 movements in 12 hours, sometimes a day. Some people get lots of movements in an hour, some get barely any.
