When did I most likely get pregnant?

Please no judgment.

My ex and I had sex on the 23rd and 24th of January.

I also had sex with someone else on the 4th of Feb (4 days before I was due on my period).

I didn't come on.

So I have taken 4 pregnancy tests since the day I was due on my period. The last negative test I got was on Saturday the 13th of February (about 3 weeks after sex with my ex).

Tody the 18th of Feb, I had a positive pregnancy test (2 weeks after sex with the other guy)

Predicted ovulation would have been when I had sex with my ex, however in the past we've had unprotected/broken condoms when I've been ovulating and nothing.

The negative pregnancy tests have thrown me off to whether it's my ex's or not. If it was my exes wouldn't I have had a positive result in the Saturday?

I know I'm a careless idiot and there's not much that can tell me who the dad is right now.

I still say the ex. Clearblue tests show you how many weeks' pregnant you are from 'conception' - presumably when the fertilised egg actually implanted in the womb, which happens a week/few days after the sperm have already met, and burrowed into, the egg. Your clearblue said 2-3 weeks, at the point when you'd had sex 2 weeks ago with guy no. 2, but 3 weeks and 4-5 days after you'd had sex with your ex.

Therefore, you had sex with your ex on 23rd/24th Jan. Sperm travelled up to meet egg, which took a day or two, then they fertilised the egg around 26th Jan, and it took a few more days to actually implant in the womb, so say 31st Jan. HCG starts being produced, but it takes a week or two before there's enough circulating in your body to show up on a pregnancy test. You take a Clearblue dating test today, and it says 2-3 weeks pregnant, which fits exactly.

There's not enough time for it to be guy no. 2.

There is a brilliant book that explains all this, called Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler. I highly recommend.

@somethingonthecarpet thank you so much

I respectfully disagree @somethingonthecarpet.
If it was the ex's Clearblue would show 3+ and the other tests would've been positive long before.
Most viable pregnancies produce high amounts of hcg in the first weeks, doubling or more every 48 hours from the moment of implantation. Even if the sperm hang around for 5 days waiting for the egg and then took another 10 days to implant (these are the absolute maximum values), she would've started getting positives on the 12th.
Sorry @WhatToDoHmmm but I think it's way more likely it's the other guy's.

The wait between changing support bubbles (assume you and both these men live alone?) is 10 days. You had sex with two different men less than 10 days apart, so @nicknamehelp's comment was valid...

WhatToDoHmmm · 18/02/2021 20:28

@physicskate there was 11 days 24th Jan - 4th Feb

I still think it's the ex's. I think it would be too soon to get a blaring positive on the other tests done at 2 weeks after ( which would be a maximum of 14dpo).
It's way more likely the ex's sperm held on in there and fertilised the egg towards the end of their lifetimes... especially if op is regular with fairly short cycles.

Either way I don't think a dating scan would clarify much, I knew my ovulation and conception dates yet was put 2 weeks ahead. DNA test is the only guarantee.

Out of curiosity, do you want it to be the ex's or the second mans?

SunnySideUp2020 · 18/02/2021 20:52

Agree with @eloiseislost

physicskate · 18/02/2021 21:13

@WhatToDoHmmm apologies. I swear I can count... but apparently not today!

Not necessarily, I got a blaring positive at 10dpo. I got an actual positive at 8dpo, a 1-2 weeks on digital at 10dpo, and a 2-3 weeks at 12dpo along with a frer ‘dye stealer’. I temp and chart so know my ovulation date.

For goodness sake. You don’t know. No one does. It could be either.
WhatToDoHmmm · 18/02/2021 21:40

😂 I shouldn't laugh because it's really not funny. It's a really screwed situation, it could be either of theirs, tests aren't accurate down to the hour are they 🤦.

I honestly just want to cry. It's guna break my ex when I tell him it might not be his and I slept with someone else.

In all fairness I didn't expect to see my ex ever again. And the other guy, it's literally a no strings thing.

As to who I'd rather the babies dad be. Right now my heads a mess and I'm trying to focus on not loosing my mind and telling both of them in the best way.

Do you need to tell either if them right now? Can you wait until after a scan?
Is this a pregnancy you are certain you want to continue with? You have options.

WhatToDoHmmm · 18/02/2021 21:56

Yes I could wait to tell them. I'm not 100% sure what to do, I have been leaning towards keeping the baby. Maybe I need some time to think about everything.

sabrinathemiddleagewitch · 18/02/2021 22:14

Are you planning on continuing with this pregnancy?

It could be either as sperm can live up to six days, so your ex's sperm may have impregnated you 6 days later than the sex. Hence the negative tests from the dates of sex. On the other hand, the other guy matches you positive test dates.

Pompom2367 · 18/02/2021 22:40

Op just try not to stress you can't change the situation and you plan to be honest don't beat yourself up x

Beforethetakingoftoastandtea · 18/02/2021 22:58

Phone your gp and talk through your options.

Could be either. No way of knowing without a DNA test.

Would I be more clear on when I get my dating scan?

No, because there are only 3 days between partners, both around ovulation and sperm lives for 7 days. The dating scam is still an estimate so when the partners are that close together it wouldn’t really make anything many more certain.
