Flu Jab - Due September 2021

Hi I'm nearly 10 weeks pregnant, due in September. I had my booking appointment a few days back. My midwife advised me to get the flu jab. I feel bad to go against medical advise, but do I need it 1 month ahead of spring time? What would you do? I've not had the flu jab before, and while I'm not against it I'd only get it if it was really necessary. I've found this first trimester so hard and don't want anything to make me feel worse. Any advice please

I'm also due September and not planning to get the flu jab given I barely leave the house at the moment anyway and we are going into spring. I would have if I was going to be pregnant over winter.

Thank you @showmorekindness I feel exactly the same. I'm just a sucker for the rules so it doesn't sit well with me to not get it, even though I don't feel I necessarily need it. Hard decision.

I'm due mud August. I turned down the flu jab this time, I barely go anywhere so just didn't feel it necessary.

Thanks @Chelyanne It's good to know that others due at similar times are feeling the same

I had my flu jab two weeks ago, also due September. Five days later I tested positive for covid. I may not have caught it at my appointment but it's the only place I've been. If I could go back, I wouldn't have bothered getting it especially as winter is almost over.

The flu jab provides your baby with protection against flu for the first few months of their lives. They will be born at the beginning of flu season. Just something to consider. I’m due early August and had mine at about 10 weeks. Didn’t have any side effects whatsoever x

@InTheCovidGarden
@MintGreenLife
Thank you ladies for sharing. I think I'll give my GP a call tomorrow. It's a 5 minute walk from me and upon reflection, I'd like to eliminate any risk, no matter how small and for my own sanity. I'm a worrier!

Update: Booked online with boots for tomorrow.
Thanks for all your responses.

I was just going to say I had a thread on this the other day and @MintGreenLife gave good advice there- I had my jab earlier in the week and other than the usual sore arm all good. I didn't go into the surgery until about a minute before my time and made sure I was ready with my arm for the nurse 😂 I think I was in her room for about 2 minutes. I probably could have got away with having it tbh but I know the jab does no harm to me and might do some good.
I've been offered a covid jab but I'm going to sit on that until towards the end of my second trimester then see how I feel about it then.

bluemagicalsky · 18/02/2021 09:36

Thanks @8dpwoah Hopefully I won't get any side effects either. Very efficient! Think I'll try and do the same!

Just to update as I had my booking appointment today - I asked about the flu vaccine and was told it is not routinely offered at this time of year because we are at the end of the flu season and by the time next flu season comes around the disease will have mutated and vaccine will be different

8dpwoah · 18/02/2021 19:50

Ah that's good info @showmorekindness just goes to show it's fair enough that a lot of us have been unsure about it then 😂
