Natural BFP at 43

Well...this is random.

I'm 43, been trying for 6 yrs, been through IVF 1 egg collection cycle and 3 transfers. 2 worked, one failed early and one miscarriage at 12 weeks.

We've just gone private and on the waiting list for egg donation as we were told the chances of using our own eggs and a successful pregnancy was extremely low.

However....I'm 2 weeks late feeling bloated and so tested, thinking it might be early peri menopause and completely naturally got a BFP.

Im painfully aware that I have 50% chance of a miscarriage and a high chance of complications. However, is there some good news stories of women having successful natural pregnancies in mid 40s and is there anything I should be doing/not doing?

Cheers Smile

Congrats on your good news, I had my first in July 2020 conceived naturally at 40, I will be turning 42 in April and last week I got a positive test followed by a chemical pregnancy, we are hoping to get pregnant again soon. A friend of mine had a surprise pregnancy at 43 and all went well she has a lovely baby girl, have you contacted your GP?

Huge congratulations xxx

I had my first baby-a little boy at 39. I'm now 42 (43 in May) and sat rocking my 2-week old baby girl.

Huge congrats! I had my first at 40 (similar to you - failed IVF then got BPF a few months later naturally) and am now trying again for our second. Enjoy your pregnancy, try not to worry about being 40+ - it's a lovely experience and so enjoy as much as you can.

Wishing you all the luck in the world - let us know how you get on! x

Congratulations. My 2 dds were conceived naturally and I had them at 41 and 44. There were no problems with either pregnancy, but they like to do extra growth scans if you're over 40.
I didn't really do anything differently, just ate healthily and kept exercising.
I did ring the midwife fairly early on with both.

Hey,

A close friend of mine had something similar - her chances of falling pregnant were slim to none. She went through Ivf multiple times in the UK then abroad and ended up with her first child. She then went through it all again (including the losses) to get dc2. 4 years later and completely out of the blue she fell pregnant naturally at a similar age to you. It was an enormous shock but everything went well and dc3 is completely fine.
