Anyone else had a breech baby at 32 weeks who successfully turned without intervention?

Because 'it's better to give birth vaginally' 'c section is major surgery' etc etc

Starlive23 · 18/02/2021 16:35

Op I'm 33 week, I have to have scans twice per week due to condition (mine, not baby) and the last two week baby has been head up, head down, head down, today head up! So definitely not uncommon to turn at our sort of gestation!

@wimbler

Yeah it was like a giant chinese burn. They were not a very good hospital. This incident should have been my warning but I didn’t know better. I am also currently pregnant with baby 2 ( almost 20 weeks), and I am concerned if it will breach or what will happen. But I’m trying not to worry myself until we get closer to time.

@MooreLew
Definitely with you, I would still take ECV over c-section. But I honestly also feel with my first pregnancy I was just very optimistic and naive. I assumed everything would go my way and trusted every HC provider. In my current second pregnancy I think I’m going in with a lot more assertiveness on what I am willing to accept, and also doing my own research. I was trying to convey to the original poster to be a bit more vigilant then I was. Sadly bad/unexpected experiences happen, and if there is a chance to get ahead of them they should be taken.

@Starlive23

See mine hasn't turned at all that I'm aware of. I'm having regular growth scans as well as my midwife appointments and at every scan or appt when midwife has felt my tummy, since around 26 weeks, she's been breech. She's just settled in the same position not moving. I'd feel a little better if she's been switching around but it seems just set up camp there bless her!

@Izzymay I know I was kind of the same with my first pregnancy too. You just kind of trust whatever they say and assume it to be in your best interests. I'm so shocked at your experience though, have you considered talking to PALS? I hope you have a positive experience and fingers crossed this time our babies play ball and get head down nice and early!! Grin

Thanks, I appreciate the advice.

This is my 2nd baby so I too have had experiences that were less than ideal (felt I wasn't listened to in labour etc), and would be more assertive this time around definitely. But my first baby wasn't breech so I've never come up against this one before.

@MooreLew
Yes the midwife at the new hospital referred me to them. They’ve been very good.

Yes! I hope our babies do turn head down this time. Keeping everything crossed for us and all mamas on the same boat.

@LouJ85

Hopefully this baby won’t be breech for long either and you won’t have to worry about this issue. Keeping everything crossed for you x.

Yes I did with my first baby! My sister also had a breech baby at this point who turned Grin
I am also 32 weeks pregnant and today have been told baby is back to back so am back to the worry of will they move in time for birth!! I do feel a little more confident knowing that my daughter went from breech to head down in time. Good luck!

I had a failed ecv on Wednesday. I had two natural births and no pain relief with my second so thought I had a relatively high pain threshold ... I would never have an ecv again. I could barely walk afterwards and now have huge bruises where they were trying to turn the baby.

Has anyone heard of babies turning by themselves after a failed ecv? I’ve tried spinning babies techniques, moxibustion, acupuncture, but no luck! I’m driving myself crazy trying to get her to turn but am now at the stage of just having to accept it!

I really want to avoid a section as I don’t want the long recovery but have heard so many scare stories about breech births!

Try also talking to your baby and gently rubbing your bump from top to bottom down the left side, telling the baby that they know the best position to be in to be born.

Some good resources on www.kghypnobirthing.com/pregnancy-information/planning-your-birth/breech-babies.html

I was birth partner to my cousin last year. She was booked in for a section as the baby was breech. Literally the night before the planned section, her waters went naturally. By the time they had got to the hospital, baby had turned and was head down ready to come. There’s still hope hun ❤️ They can literally turn last minute.
Sorry you had a crappy time with the ecv, it sounds awful.
My mum gave birth to my brother breach with an epidural and everything was fine, that was like 30 years ago.
Try to relax if you can xx
