Hi All, just looking for any advice or tips... My husband and I have just started our journey to start trying for a baby. Im 27 years old and have PCOS. It has been hard to track my ovulation as its all over the place due to my condition. Just reaching out to see of anyone else have been through the same or similar. I obviously have nerves but excitement at the same time. I think the process of retraining your brain is strange. For years were on contraception thinking I can't get pregnant im too young... oh god Im late imagine if I'm pregnant mum will kill me! To know reversing this and actually trying for the miracle youve spent years preventing! Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

Hi @amyanastasia I don't have Pcos, but I do have endometriosis which can make it difficult to get pregnant. I am however now 9.5 weeks! The one thing we did, was just to have sex every other day through the month. We had a few months where we did it every day around when we thought I ovulated, we didn't track ov I just guessed when It happened due to the change in discharge etc, and that made no difference. The month it happened for us was when we chilled out over Christmas lol. I also got some conceive plus lube which really helped! Good luck x

Hi! Thank you for sharing! Its funny how many stories Iv heard of that when you just relax it happens naturally! You understand the fear of it never happening but im so glad it did for you! A huge congratulations!!! Were just taking it month by month. I have bought the clear blue ovulation tests so fingers crossed they can give us an idea.

Hi @AmyAnastasia

I am a similar age to you and also have PCOS and Adenomyosis (v similar to endometriosis though not quite the same). The PCOS was our biggest “challenge” to getting to where we are now (8 weeks or so!)

I was doing ovulation tests but frankly they’re a waste of money- I was told by fertility not to do them as our hormones are out of balance anyway so they aren’t the most reliable

I’d say track your cycles (you probably are already) and when you hit the 6 month mark ask for a fertility referral, from there you’ll have more scans and blood tests to see if you’re ovulating or not.

I ended up having ovarian diathermy via keyhole surgery, but that’s because I was having the surgery to diagnose endo/Adeno due to pain so they did it all at once. Otherwise I’d have been put on letrozole/ Clomid which are drugs to stimulate ovulation.

I was due to start the drugs around about now but found out I was expecting a few weeks ago.

I still don’t know when we conceived as we were DTD 3-4 times a week throughout my cycle and it had shortened significantly since my surgery in October but I didn’t know how long it was as it was so soon 🤦🏼‍♀️

Keep trying, regular sex 3-4 times a week and diarise to phone your GP after 6 months for that all important referral if you need it.

Good luck!! x

Hello @AmyAnastasia!

I have PCOS and am currently 18 weeks pregnant with my first, I'm a couple of years older than you (29, turning 30 next month - eek!!) and I completely get that feeling of being on contraception for years then trying, it feels so surreal at first - I still feel 16 in my head Grin!!

I was always told by my GP not to bother with ovulation tests as our hormones can make them very inaccurate. I tried the Natural Cycles app for a while, just because I found it useful to keep a log of my temperature each day in order to gage when I was ovulating.

My periods were basically non-existent, I'd have maybe two 'proper' periods a year. When we discovered I was pregnant I couldn't believe it at first as I hadn't had a period! So there was a lot of confusion as to when we had actually conceived, but from looking at my temperature I was able to find it and pinpoint the week I'd been ovulating.

I was also taking the Pregnacare conception vitamins throughout trying to conceive as was advised that they help prep your body, and my OH was also taking the male equivalent. Other than that was didn't change much and had been planning on seeking help from GP if we didn't conceive by the end of the year. I'd say we were actively trying for about a year before we conceived.

Sending loads of positive vibes to you and all the best on your journey! Xx
