Recommendations for private surgical management of miscarriage during COVID?

Hi!

I found out on 3rd feb (12 week scan) that I have had a missed miscarriage at 5-6 weeks, I had experienced spotting for about a week so was expecting bad news at this point.

However, was made to wait 10 days for second scan even though I was 100 percent certain my dates were correct and now due to Covid testing requirements I can’t be booked in for surgery for another week. So my pregnancy would have ended around 9 weeks ago by the time I actually get surgery to clear it.

I have been in the worst pain of my life with cramping so bad I ended up in a&e yesterday where they still refused to help me any sooner because I wasn’t heavily bleeding.
I have been desperately trying to find a private gynaecologist/clinic to perform the ERPC in SW London/Surrey but struggling to find anyone who can help urgently - does anyone have any recommendations or experience with private specialists that I could reach out to?

Thanks in advance! X

I'm really sorry you are going through this. There is a clinic in Epsom who might be able to help: www.crpclinic.co.uk/manual-vacuum-aspiration-mva/ As far as I know they offer sedation as well. Hope you can put it behind you soon.

@Wireless77 thank you I will check them out! X

Hi OP.
I’m sorry to hear what you are going through. It’s bad enough without then not being able to receive the care you need.
I faced a longish wait with the NHS for the surgical procedure having two attempts with medical management that failed.
I went privately and was treated at HCA The Shard (yes, the actual Shard!)
I saw Dr Kumar Kunde. It’s the private wing of St Guys and St Thomas.

guysandstthomasprivatehealthcare.co.uk/consultants/mr-kumar-kunde/

It was covered by my insurance so I cannot help with costs.
They did it under general anaesthetic - I do remember him saying he would not do it under local.
I went in very early and was out by 1pm. I felt surprisingly well physically after.

I was treated very well and felt I was in safe hands.

There is a number on that link.
Wishing you luck and hoping the pain has subsided.

Thank you @Onestep2021 , I have managed to book in with Dr Kumar Kunde for an urgent appointment this week. So thank you so much for your recommendation and fingers crossed he can help me!

I’m pleased to hear it. And I hope he can too.
He is an older man who is very experienced. Last night when I googled him to post the site I found recommendations on Mumsnet for him from 10years ago..
I hope the appointment goes well.

Hi @Pregnancynumber1

I know this thread is a month old but just wondering if you went ahead with the private erpc? I’m in the same situation currently and trying to find a private hospital that offers this

Thanks! X

Hi @Instax123 , sorry to hear you are in the same situation.
I did go ahead with the ERPC, Mr Kunde scheduled me for the following day after consultation and was absolutely brilliant about everything. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough and his assistant was super helpful too.

I had the ERPC at London Bridge Hospital and everything was very straightforward and felt totally looked after the whole time.

I am 4 weeks on from the ERPC and had no pain following.

Hope that helps :) x

@Pregnancynumber1 thanks so much for coming back to me. I think I will get in touch with him.

Can I just ask how long you were in hospital for and were you allowed to take a partner? I’m so scared of the general anaesthetic

Also do you know if he used an ultrasound whilst carrying out the procedure?

Thanks so much xx

Pregnancynumber1 · 25/03/2021 15:48

Of course, so I wasn’t allowed to bring my partner and I went alone to the consultation and operation but they were sooo brilliant I was totally at ease.

I was very worried about the general anaesthetic too, I was petrified in fact but it was completely fine! I told the nurse who was looking after me that I was nervous and she was so kind. I went in to hospital at 9am and had my op at 11am and I was out on the way home by 2pm! It was totally stress free.

The operation itself I believe takes around 15 minutes but I think I was asleep for around an hour... it’s like blinking and it’s over and done with so I wouldn’t worry about it again in future.

Yes he does it guided by ultrasound so I felt much more comfortable with the idea of the surgery. I wish I had just gone to him in the first instance and not waited for the NHS because it really added to the trauma of it all for me!

Please let me know if you have any more questions and I’d be happy to answer any of them, I spent soo long trying to find somewhere to go and answers to questions so I know it really helps xx

@Pregnancynumber1 thank you so much for this. Makes me feel a lot better

I also wish I had gone straight to private to be honest, the waiting around/ not knowing makes the whole situation so much worse doesn’t it!

I just can’t wait for this all to be over! Xx
