Uppababy Vista 2 & Small Boot - City Car

Hi All!

I know there's a pushchairs board but it's very quiet there and I'm hoping to get practical responses from those of you who have this pram and a small car.

I am looking into buying Uppababy Vista 2, currently have a small city runner (a Toyota Aygo).

Can anyone who has an Aygo (or equivalent, so say, the smallest city cars like Skoda, Seat, VW or Citroen) tell me if it actually fits in your boot?

There are articles online which say it does, but I think they relate to the previous version of the Vista, not Vista 2.

Secondly, if it does fit, does the carrycot fold and fit in the boot too? Or do you need to unclip it first, fold it (I am looking at the photos and I think it folds??) and put it elsewhere in your car?

Finally, do you need to take any wheels off to fit this pram in your boot, please?

TIA 💐 xx

I have a Ford Fiesta and I can only get my uppababy in the boot if I take the parcel shelf out and stand it up right. Couldn’t get the carry cot in as well so that had to go on the back seat. I can get the toddler seat in but not on the frame. I really didn’t want to mess around taking wheels off because usually they’d be wet or muddy (which is why we went for the uppababy - so we could walk off road). Now expecting twins so no idea how we are going to get out in my car!

PurplePansy05 · 15/02/2021 13:19

Thanks a lot @Clarigirl87, this definitely means the Vista 2 carrycot won't fit in my boot. I had a Fiesta before and the Aygo is much smaller 🙈Do you mind me asking, if you put the carrycot on the back seat, did you travel with your young baby in a cat seat attached to the front seat? xx

If anyone can advise re fitting the frame and toddler seat of Vista 2 in a boot of a city car that would be fab xx

I don't know how accurate it is but I've been using this website as a starting point as I'm trying to find a pram that fits into a fiat 500 boot.

www.mybuggymycar.com

From comparing the folded dimensions of a lot of pushchairs over the past few days I will say the Vista 2 isn't that compact & it definitely doesn't fit in the fiat but I think the Aygo is slightly bigger.

PurplePansy05 · 15/02/2021 14:09

Oooh @luxxlisbon thanks a lot for this! Might be a v useful starting point!

Reviving the thread as we'll be buying a pram soon - does anyone know if it's possible to remove Vista 2's carrycot with the baby sleeping in it? I'm minded to use it as a moses basket too with the appropriate base, was just wondering about the practicalities.

I have this pram (albeit v1) and also have a Toyota Aygo (20 plate). I can’t fit the pram in my boot, i can fit the chassis in the boot but not the bassinet, which my baby is currently in as he’s c7weeks. It’s usually only he and I in the car so I fold my rear seats down and can fit both parts of the pram in and it’s really easy to do. I could remove the bassinet from mine while baby is asleep in it but have never done it - it’s really easy to remove but I’m not sure if the mechanism is the same on the v2. There are loads of videos on YouTube about assembling the pram - I had to watch them one day frantically trying to figure out how to do various bits and pieces as I hadn’t tried before the baby came...

bananamonkey · 11/04/2021 03:36

It sounds like it might be a struggle OP, I have the Vista 1 and love it to death but it does have a big frame, I could only fit it into the boot of my Yaris with taking the wheels off and putting the carrycot on top.

You can take the carrycot off with one hand with the baby in and use as a bassinet.

Is the Cruz appealing? I think it’s a smaller frame?

bananamonkey · 11/04/2021 07:48
  • could only just fit in the boot of my Yaris.
PurplePansy05 · 11/04/2021 07:53

Thanks ladies. @bananamonkey Definitely considering Cruz too, however I don't think it converts into a tandrm buggy and DH and I remain hopeful to have DC2 at some point so just trying to future proof a bit. Great news re the bassinet, phew! Thank you xx

@017HF That's so useful, finally someone could give me a straight answer! Do you mind me asking, do you have your DC in the front seat if you fold your back seats to fit in the bassinet? I am thinking about a swivel car seat and I think these are a no no in the front seat of the Aygo from what I checked on manufacturer's websites.

I suppose another option is to put the bassinet on one folded back seat (mine are split 50/50 so only one can be folded down). But how do I attach it to the seat then? This would be by far the easiest option for me!

I REALLY do not want to remove the wheels to fit this pram in the boot, I am guessing this isn't something you've tried? xx

It’s a huge pushchair, I had a Kia Sportage and it took up my whole boot. Great pushchair. (not helpful!)
My DS didn’t like the bassinet, so I only used it 2-3 times. I used the frame with the car seat or a sling until he when into the pushchair.

Taking the wheels off is easy @PurplePansy05 it’s only the big back ones, they just pop out and click back on

PurplePansy05 · 11/04/2021 08:16

Crikey @Barksmum12 I better tell DH to get a roof rack then 😂 We have a similar size SUV as family car, half of it usually taken up by DDog when we travel so no chance of the Vista going in there too by the looks of it! Thanks! xx

I have a 2018 Vista, I adore it. More than the children some days. Wink

It is big though, and a friend used to have to take a wheel off hers to fit it in her fiesta.

You can take the carry cot off with a sleeping baby in and transfer to the stand - we had this set up with DD2 and I would definitely recommend rather than getting a Moses basket. Wouldn't have had a hope with DD1 who was a bad sleeper though, so as with so much, it depends on the baby.

We used it as a double when DD2 came along when we traveled and I wouldn't recommend it at all as a double - steers like a bus, ridiculously heavy. Maybe the Vista 2 is better, I don't know. We use an out n about double when we have them both, and DD2 uses the Vista when DD1 is at nursery or able to walk on a short trip.

I agree you should contemplate the Cruz, a friend has one and loves it. I have to say I prefer the Vista, it seems like a smoother ride, but if you need a smaller one the Cruz might be the way to go (and the difference might not be as big in the newer generation anyway). I wouldn't be put off by the fact that it doesn't convert at all.

Barksmum12 · 11/04/2021 08:27

I also used it as a double-once and never again. Luckily, the buggy board was excellent.

PurplePansy05 · 11/04/2021 08:38

Well that's a lot to think about. Especially that in reality I don't think we could go ahead with DC2 until DS is around 3. I know from experience sadly things don't always go to plan, but I can't quite imagine having the second one (if we're blessed) sooner. So maybe we should go with the Cruz and just get a buggy board. The Cruz would be much easier with my car and in our house (good size but narrow hall).

Did you all have to buy a lighter stroller anyway, for popping out quickly and/or travel, in addition to the Vista? That might also tip me over towards the Cruz because ultimately Cruz is cheaper and it probably makes sense if I was going to buy two buggies anyway. I've actually been trying to avoid doing just that and thought Vista had it all lol! xx

We bought a lightweight buggy to leave at nursery, and it was handy for other things like going to my parents overnight - less room taken up in the boot. I don't know that we would've bothered if we hadn't needed it for nursery though. We have a two year age gap and DD1 was using the Vista for her daily walk in lockdown until the day before DD2 arrived (obviously getting in and out).

A lot of people prefer a smaller lighter buggy when they have a toddler, but I like the suspension and big basket of the Vista and so it's my go to. I don't use the car much though, if I was having to lift it in and out of the boot each time I might feel differently!

Curlysusie · 11/04/2021 09:02

I loved my vista (2017 edition) it was big but really nice to use

If your baby is asleep in the carrycot would you va able to leave them asleep in the pram until they wake up rather than move the carrycot, it is possible to remove it but I don't think they advise it.

I had to remove a wheel but it literally takes 2 seconds. Just one button to press so not a reason to avoid

I didn't like the look of the combinations for a double so got a maclaren side by side, just had to manage for first few months with sling before dc2 could sit up a bit

We then got a light weight one when dc2 was the only one in the pram and wanted it for travel and sold the other 2

The carrycot collapsed and had a cover to put it in so would fit in front seat or back seat of car easily and don't forget that it's not so long they're in the carrycot. The second part of the pram can stay attached whilst you collapse.

If you're not planning much off roading a Cruz may work best

Good luck with baby Smile

017HF · 11/04/2021 09:24

Yes I put him in the front and then turn the air bag off, I have a rear facing child seat for now so can’t help with the swivel one im afraid. Is it because it’s front facing that you can’t have it in the front seat? My rear seats fold down separately too but I haven’t tried to fit the pram in that way (in truth I hadn’t even thought about it!) - I blame the baby brain... I’m not sure what you meant about folding down one seat but not being able to attach, do you mean a car seat in the other rear seat? I haven’t taken the wheels off either as I haven’t had to, if we’re going anywhere and it’s more than just baby and I then we take my partner’s car as his boot is big enough to fit the whole pram in x

Sleepisoverrated150 · 11/04/2021 09:25

We got a mamas and papas xt3 and it folds down quite small for our boot. It folds down all in one go rather than two pieces and is quite compact

Caspianberg · 11/04/2021 09:30

It’s such a big pram for a tiny car.

I honestly wouldn’t buy a pram now that converts to a tandem just in case you ever need it. Lots of doubles work best with certain age gaps ie some better with twins, some better with 1 year gap, some with newborn and toddler. Seeing as you have no idea what gap would be, just sort that when you get to it.

Anything with a separate carrycot will basically be too big for that car unless all back seats folded down. So look at the type where main seat is suitable from birth without carrycot.

Caspianberg · 11/04/2021 09:36

Also, remember you will probably still want to fit other things in the car apart from pram at various times.
We have a small car also, (corsa), and it fits the mountain buggy swift and carrycot in boot just about. Now baby older we don’t use carrycot.
I still often just take no pram and sling because I need the space for buying stuff ie yesterday food shop and plants from garden centre.
I think I will get the baby zen yo-yo as well in future for travel, and so it can fit in footwell when I need the boot empty

Dugi3 · 11/04/2021 09:40

I have the v2 and use it as a tandem for 19month and 5month old so have to use the bassinet and toddler seat. To fit it in the boot of a beetle I have to dismantle the entire thing and stack ontop of each other. It's a complete faff having to do it and it is SUPER HEAVY as a tandem! It's an amazing pram though so much room to carry all babies bits underneath!

PurplePansy05 · 11/04/2021 09:41

@017HF No, no, the car seat I am looking at is definitely rear facing, it just has a swivel base meaning you can rotate it 180 degrees (90 each way). It's a Cybex and looking at the manufacturers website it could only go on one of the reae seats of the Aygo.

I was thinking about folding one of the rear seats down and having DS in his car seat attached to the other rear seat. But I would like to make sure that if the base and/or carrycot of the pram go on the folded rear seat that they don't move which could be an issue in an accident. So I've been wondering how to strap them to the seat somehow??

You've given me a lot of food for thought, thank you. Also looking at Mamas & Papas Flip. We have in store appointments booked for next week and I'd like to go with a shortlist of prams that we like and try them out first before making the final decision. I am also quite short and wouldn't consider myself very strong now, so maybe a tandem Vista would actually be too heavy for me anyway. I live in a hilly area! xx
